Forums - Microsoft - Dynasty Warriors Producer: “XBox One Is Just Plain Expensive”

The Silent Chief

This week, both Sony and Microsoft finally unveiled the prices of their next pieces of hardware to millions of anxious gamers during E3.

The XBox One and the PS4 will set you back $499 and $399, respectively but if you think both consoles are a bit too pricey, you’re not alone.

Speaking to Dengeki, Dynasty Warriors producer and director Akihiro Suzuki shared his initial reaction to each system’s price tag:

“First, I think that Xbox One is just plain expensive. I immediately thought “Really!?” (laughs) PS4 is comparably cheaper, but if you think about it calmly, it’s not really that cheap either, so I think both of them are subtle.

“Maybe both companies assumed from the beginning that core fans will buy them early even if they’re a bit expensive, so the initial target should be focused on them.”

He also added that Tecmo Koei will “continue to release softwares for current-gen consoles, so that the overall transitions to next-gen consoles will happen in a leisurely manner”.

I agree

From what is posted, he said both were expensive. Odd that you single one console out while skipping over the other. Double Standard much?

Yes clearly only the X1 is expensive.

Blame the article, not the OP mate.

Guys have to remember that Japan is used to cheaper prices.

The heck it is! Why make your console $100 more than your main rival? It just doesn't make any sense! Especially since the PS4 already looks like the better choice. Why soil your console even further. If there is a price cut for Wii U, the Xbone can take a comfy 3rd place seat. I'm still confused though... and that "deal" with Xbox live is just a scam. You'll still be paying the same if not more for your One. I'm not going buy an Xbox One anyway. I never was and never will. But Microsoft is just trying to kill themselves it almost seems.

Sigh.

what did he expect? both at 199 or what? nothing below 399 was really to expect. sure, xb1 should only cost 450 or maybe even 399 but that is probably unrealistic with kinect but to think a new console launch in 2013 for 399 is expensive is weird in my opinion.

All consoles are expensive when first launched so I don't see why the obvious is so blatantly pointed out unless I'm missing something.  And FYI, before this year's E3 Nsanity always posts positive Xbox news and negative PlayStation news.  I've on a couple of occasions called him out on it.  This is after E3, go figure.  And I love Dynasty Warriors.

Its ridiculous that anyone is complaining about the PS4 price... The hardware that you get is completely worth it. If anything is on the cheapside. I was expecting the same price as the Xbox and I was pleasantly surprised.

$399 for a PS4 is a good price, but once you add everything up it really isn't that great of a price. PSN+ is $50? + $399 + tax + game = $550. Xbox One is even more expensive. TBH both will sell out at launch because that is what consoles do but I don't think either will do particularly well next year until the holiday season.
