What are you saying, that if they had been third party they'd have been fine? I don't think you've researched this company very well. I've been following them from their first game "cloud" and fl0w is one of my favorite browser games of all time, next to desktop tower defense.
Being exclusive was not the problem. No, they were funded to make these games BECAUSE a company invested in them. Because they were a new company, they made some mistakes during journey. They weren't ready for such a large game with such a small group, especially a group that the creator's admit, had different ideas on how to convey the narrative. In fact, had they been multiplat to begin with, they might not have even survived it, and probably been subsumed by some corp like ea or activision.
