Board with gaming or will it comeback?

I have been playing games since I was a young child and used to play hours a day on the Genesis, N64, GB, GBA PS1, and GC. This past gen my family ended up with all 3 home consoles and I played a ton of great games mainly on the Wii specifically.

When the 3DS was released, I got it about 2 weeks later and was very excited to play many of the games that were announced. My most anticipated games were Paper Mario SS, Resident Evil Revelations, Animal Crossing NL, Super Mario 3DL, Mario Kart 7, and Luigi's Mansion DM. The Bolded were the only games that I ended up buying so far and I only played about an hour of RE, and played MK7 significantly less than I had thought, despite owning both for over a year. New Leaf was easily my most anticipated game for the 3DS and I've been waiting years for its release...but...now that it's finally out...I just don't seem to care. It kind of just looks boaring to me.

As for the next gen consoles, I was excited to see what Microsoft has done with Kinect but I'm not impressed. Sony has made the PS4 the best they possibly could realilisticlly but I'm still not excited. As for the Wii U? I like all the games they have shown at E3 and actually support Mario's direction with 3DW but it doesn't make me wish I had a Wii U. Even Pikmin 3, the game I've been wanting to play since 2006 is doing nothing for me.

Recently, I've been only playing IOS games on my mobile devices and that's about it. I play an actual system game about once every 2 weeks when people come over for like an hour. The last new game I bought was in November.

Do I just need to buy a new game even though I'm not excited by it? Do I need a new system? What do you guys think?

When is the last time you actually played a game?

I remember when I had a gaming lull around Summer of last year. I bought Paper Mario: Stick Star, Pokemon White 2, and New Super Mario Bros. 2, then never played them. After months of doing nothing accept letting them sit there, not even opening them, I finally decided to play Pokemon White 2. (Mainly because I was sick and there was nothing else for me to do...)
I actually really, really enjoyed it. As of right now it's my most played game on my 3DS and I really started to get interested in gaming again. I bought Animal Crossing: New Leaf the day it released (I pre-ordered it!) and I'm loving it. Before that, I bought new copies of Pokemon HeartGold and Platinum and decided to replay them and I was very pleased.

I think you're just in a lull. I got out of it after months of doing nothing but buying games and never playing them, but then getting sick and deciding to try something. It worked, and I'm hooked again. Just try something out. Get Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Maybe you'll be surprised.

Welcome to being a non gamer! I come out of hibernation around E3 to see what's doing, but like a ground hog that doesn't see its shadow, I go back knowing gaming industry is not healthy. And not interested in my money.

I've never liked the wannabe hollywood inspired, set piece, qte cinematic games, I don't like the constant content recycling with new gameplay gimmick Nintendo continues to shoe horn into their games as of late. I refuse to participate in DRM of any kind, or mandatory pay walls for online gaming. If you don't love FPS than what alternative do you have? An Annual sports game release? Count me out.

I grew up on Atari and Nintendo and even Sega. To see where gaming is now, console gaming at least, seems like a waste. You might as well get a gaming PC, but I've never been a PC gamer either. Unless Oregon Trail counts back in 89. Or Wolfenstein 3D in 94 lol.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Gaming has gotten boring for me too.. I can start a game, but never seem to be able to keep playing after the first day or two. Only two games have made me play them for a long period of time over the past 2 years. They are Dust: An Elysian Tail and the new Tomb Raider. Other than that, I just watch Netflix. The Xbox One has brought me new hope in new forms of entertainment with the TV in features. I think I just like to watch and see stories unfold, instead of actually playing the games. That also makes the features of remote viewing, watching your friends play a game from your console, appealing.

You're done. It's time to do something else

I think you need a game that will breathe life into your gaming experience, maybe one that makes you see what gaming can be, how masterfully it can be done. Maybe you should try The Last of Us for PS3.

It might just be that game that gets you hooked again. With 32 perfect scores and counting, it seems to be the perfect candidate.

If that game doesn't do it for you then maybe wait for Zelda Wii U? Zelda games always bring out the gaming child in me and have me immersed.

Yep, the kind of gaming you're talking about has pretty much moves on mobile stuff (no wonder WiiU is already dying). From now on, that's your pick. Move to more complex games or stand with the critter jumping around...

The last time I played a single player game was in December with PMSS for 3DS. (Got it in November)

Animal Crossing & Luigi's Mansion were 2 of my favorite games of all time but I don't know why I'm hesitant on the 3DS games. I think the 3DS is too small for me but I'm definitely not going to pay for an XL just to hope it makes me like playing games again.

Is New Leaf really that much better than City Folk? I think that's another gripe I have with Nintendo at the moment. I feel as if once I played one game in their series I've played all of them because they are gameplay focused. I like that about them but now I'm starting to think, "if I wanna play Mario Kart I have it on the Wii" or "New Leaf is out!...why don't I just go play City Folk" It's almost as if I'm tired if the old games but the new ones aren't convincing me of being new either.

I don't own a PS3 anymore unfortunately.

I've never been a fan of Zelda so that won't work either. My favorite series included Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Resident Evil, Mario, Super Smash Bros, LittleBigPlanet, just to name some. As you can see from my OP, they're not exciting me anymore.

Little Big Planet? Without a PS3?...
