It sounds to me like they're negotiating with publishers to not have online passes.
There are many things they can put on the table in this regard but at the end of the day ea and acti are so big that what they want, they do.
Its really not so hard to understand.
One console has mandatory registration, another does not.
Pretty simple concept being spun out of damage control.

He's not contradicting anything. He's saying things are the same as PS3 as publishers can choose to use DRM in their games, althoug no publisher is stupid enough to actually do it. Online Passes are gone completely and they don't allow it at all as their data shows that people don't buy them.

I suggest you read the OP as Sony clearly states they don't allow online passes.
There is nothing confusing about this. PS4 DRM and policies are pretty much the same as PS3. There's nothing confusing about it.
Well he's not saying anything for sure but he's definitely implying that they are trying to gwt rid of online passes. Setting the precedent, was the wording I believe
