I don't want to offense anyone..but why would you ever buy the 3DS version over the Wii U version. Also read some post about getting the 3DS version earlier. The 3DS version has less pretty graphics and it looks like it runs at 30fps based on the gameplay videos. Smash Bros for Wii U is just...bigger, much prettier, 60fps at 1080p with better online and so much more powerful.

It seems Sakurai is continuing the trend of announcing characters in conjonction with new Nintendo games. Could we get a Wonderful 101 character next?

possibly, and although we all knew luigi would be in the game at least it is getting rid of all the basic chars we know will be in there making way for new char annoucements or at least confirming chars that are in question e.g. toon link (which in my guess will be replaced with whatever new art design the new zelda takes for Wii U).

The next character will be Diddy Kong or some kong.

nah, i think it will be a pokemon, either a confirm for jiggs or a new one with the release of X & Y

I hope that the 5 lost characters from Melee will return (Dr. Mario, Roy, Pichu, Mewtwo, Young Link) as well as all 35 characters from Brawl.

Sakurai hinted at some things for the 3ds version, making customizations and then porting them to the wii u. It's not a reason to buy it over the Wii U but it's a reason to buy both, And Smash Bros. on the go isn't bad at all^^
