Because the Wii U isn't even up to current gen standards, it's tough to consider it Next Gen. Especially when you consider the PS4 will have Vita support, throw one of those in the box and charge $500 and you have even more ammunition against the Xbox One and the Wii U.

I'd take a Steam-based console (No trading in, no lending, tons of DRM) over that in a heart beat. I say this because I own a Wii U and really regret the hell out of it.

The Xbox One is a promising console. The PS4 is more promising. The Wii U still feels like it's in beta and is overpriced by about $150.

Just imagine if the Wii U had specifications which allowed for easy and equal ports between it and the PS4/XO.

Tell that to Civilization computer AI... Takes a good developer to take advantage of more power. You can have best looking game but terrible gameplay. Graphics aren't everything. I'm sure the Wii U will hold its own a lot better than Wii did when it comes to graphics.
