but wasn't the xbox one an all in one box? Why would I want another box next to the xbox one, along with the dvr or cable box that is compatible with xbox one next to the xbox one?

You forget the mandatory Kinect

Yeah, I'd rather buy the cheaper console (Wii U is still cheaper, but nevermind), brag about the price and throw out more money for controllers and Sony HDDs than I would on other platforms.
Makes perfect sense.

The cheaper console is simply a bragging right for a lot of core gamer tbh honest. I would have shelled out for a $600-1000 console without blinking an eye if it met my requirement and gamers have proven in the past that they will go that far with he N64, Wii, PS1 and PS2 stock shortage and subsequent price gauge.

The price point however will be relevant for more mainstream consumers and will likely increase sale, which can leads to better support from developers / publishers.

But yea its happiness by association, much like the kickstarter phenomenon and just basic human nature: we like betting on a winning horse. :)

Great news... I think I will buy a SSD for my PS4.

And lol at the guys saying external HDDs is the same thing lol

you're wrong on this.

they have confirmed that the external drive by USB 3.0 will be able to operate exactly as an internal drive, so install, game saves etc can all sit there and function correctly.

I don't believe it. I'm sure the core system etc. will not be installed to the external drive, just the non-mandatory parts like games, game saves, DLC etc.

But apart from that, there's a good chance that that's not even what ethnomaz meant.

well not the OS obviously.  but from a storage perspective.

So it's not exactly as the internal drive, just additional storage space for optional data.

And that's why the ability to put the system onto an SSD as ethnomaz is planning has a huge advantage: Because installing the main system onto an SSD usually makes a huge noticable speed difference.

and wil cost about $500 presumably for a 1TB.  I guess thats great, but I dont see the tangible benefit personally.  Seems a tad OTT.

Geeks will be geeks, we love shit like this :P

But you're missing his point. It's not the same thing as having it INSIDE the console. It's still having two seperate hard drives.

On the PS4 you can replace the hard drive inside the machine, and you can attatch an external HDD to the machine. The PS4 can do both where as the Xbox One (as it says in the name) can only do one.

Also, as mentioned in this thread there are numerous advantages to being able to replace the internal hard drive when compared to just being able to attatch an external hard drive.

Fun to look at all the damage control going on here though ^^
