Forums - Sony - And another one : PS4 Hardrive is upgradable

Yeah, I'd rather buy the cheaper console (Wii U is still cheaper, but nevermind), brag about the price and throw out more money for controllers and Sony HDDs than I would on other platforms.
Makes perfect sense.

Sony HDD? That is news to me. I have a 1TB HDD, non-Sony, so it won't work? Oh, no!

The most expensive controller is the Wii U controller.

Great news... I think I will buy a SSD for my PS4.

And lol at the guys saying external HDDs is the same thing lol

you're wrong on this.

they have confirmed that the external drive by USB 3.0 will be able to operate exactly as an internal drive, so install, game saves etc can all sit there and function correctly.

I don't believe it. I'm sure the core system etc. will not be installed to the external drive, just the non-mandatory parts like games, game saves, DLC etc.

But apart from that, there's a good chance that that's not even what ethnomaz meant.

well not the OS obviously.  but from a storage perspective.

So it's not exactly as the internal drive, just additional storage space for optional data.

And that's why the ability to put the system onto an SSD as ethnomaz is planning has a huge advantage: Because installing the main system onto an SSD usually makes a huge noticable speed difference.

Excellent news. I was genuinely baffled when MS said the XBOne HDD wasn't upgrade-able. What's the logic in that? You would have thought they would have wanted to at least sell proprietary HDDs.

You can expand the storage via USB 3.0. It's actually easier the Xbox ONE way... For a change!

Oh, I was unaware of that. Work's been crazy and I've only been paying off and on attention to gaming news lately. Yeah, I would imagine it would be easier that way.

and wil cost about $500 presumably for a 1TB.

Whoever intends to buy a SSD knows that they much more expensive than mechanical drives, but nevertheless:

Congratulations on your first good point.

xbox one - kinect 2 - tv box - external hard drive.
doesnt sound very all in one, may as well plug in a lamp while your at it

So every tech website that makes benchs with external USB 3.0 HDD are lying to us .

USB 3.0

external HDD no problem if required, can operate exactly like an increased internal drive.

Ah yes the Xbox One, given it's name because it's the only 'one' device you need under your tv.... apart from your cable box.... and now an external hard drive for when you inevitably run out of room.... hahaha well thought out Microsoft.

kowenicki said:

so you are saying it wont work?

No. I'm saying that external USB 3.0 HDDs are slow.

So the install time will be biiger than the internal HDD and any IO actions will be slow... if even slow you can play the games fine but it will be slow for sure.

That was one of the most complain about PS3 HDD too... too slow.

I expect to Sony to fix that.

but wasn't the xbox one an all in one box? Why would I want another box next to the xbox one, along with the dvr or cable box that is compatible with xbox one next to the xbox one?
