During their E3 press conference today, Microsoft announced that Xbox Live Gold, the paid subscription that is required in order to play Xbox 360 games online, will now include free game downloads leading up to the launch of the Xbox One in November. The first games that will be available as part of this service are Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3 — both very good games! Fable III will also be free for the month of June (though, presumably, the game is yours to keep as long as you download it while it’s free).
This makes Microsoft’s service more competitive with Sony’s PlayStation Plus, which has been offering free games each month for well over a year.
