Forums - Microsoft - Polygon: Xbox One policy "gross, despicable, greedy, pathetic, cowardly"

Well the brutal truth is why should they care about "underprivileged gamers"? That is a poor target market who will give you small returns. You will find 99% of all companies operate under that idea so why should gaming be any different?

interesting especially considering Sony is still able to sell PS2s and portables in those markets and they continue to grow everyday.  your suppossed to expand the market not limit it.

I'm glad so many media outlets, gaming and mainstream, are taking Microsoft to task over the DRM issue.

- "If you have the heart of a true winner, you can always get more pissed off than some other asshole."

But the Xbox One policy doesn't share the good aspects of PC gaming. PC games can be given away by developers. PC games can be sold without DRM. There are alternative retailers, allowing the consumer to choose where he or she buys from. And because there is choice, there is competition, and because there is competition, there is competitive pricing.

THat part was brilliant as all the defenders always try to throw PC gaming into it. and the above statement proves why thats BS

I agree 100% with the quote and I can afford to buy any game/system and own all the current systems.  The policy is very anti-consumer.  Show me any other consumer good that has a policy like the Xbox One does for used games.  The last time I checked, my car dealer didn't have to send GM a check when I trade in my car or even be notified except for warranty transfers.

Stop hating and start playing.

This is very true. What Microsoft is doing is no different then any other company that makes high end products designed for first world countries. They shouldn't be attacked for going for a specific target audience. Their target audience is a). People who have plenty of money and b). People who think they have plenty of money (these are the type of people that buy nice products on credit usually).

It sucks for these "underprivileged gamers" because they essentially aren't allowed to enjoy that product (or they have to go through a lot of trouble to enjoy it) but they have plenty of other options. If we went by the logic of "If I someone else isn't able to enjoy something, then I shouldn't be able to either." then we wouldn't be able to enjoy anything technology or service based because someone else is out there that can't enjoy it.

“It’s pure arrogance. Microsoft is beyond arrogant. It’s becoming like a task on The Apprentice where they just haven’t got a clue. To think every Xbox One owner will have a broadband connection – it’s unbelievable. Internet is cut off for loads of reasons – faulty connections, people not paying bills on time – it happens.

“The trade-ins for participating retailers sounds like it’s for larger retailers that have got the money.

“I don’t see the point of stocking Xbox One at the minute and customers are saying that even though they had the Xbox and the Xbox 360, they will go for the PS4 as it’s a gamer’s console, not a entertainment system. What the hell are they doing? Not everyone has internet. Some just want the game and not to play online. Those people are being ignored by Microsoft.

 Robert Lindsay – Games Centre

“Yet again it feels like Microsoft and publishers are still testing the water to see how far they can take this without causing a consumer revolt.

“In the good times a few years ago when revenue was healthy no one really mentioned the pre-owned market. Now that all publishers are feeling the squeeze they are grasping for any short-term solution they can find. If they do implement this there will be no winners and it's clear that customers are completely against this system.

Wow.

Sorry for bad English.

Those sales are in emerging economies which are utterly different to the one in question - the developed Western world which will be given the choice of buying their brand new console. That is the one where the most profit is to be gained, the others are mere rootings in possible markets that will evolve into wealthier ones.

I don't think anyone has ever gone into E3 with such negativity attached to them before, not even the WiiU.

That's great. With news like those in more mainstream and gaming sites, hopefully this awful and anti-customer DRM system publishers and console makers want to throw down into our throats will not work.
