Forums - Gaming - How Microsoft should have handled used games.

I thought of a way that Microsoft should have handled used g ame sales that'd usually work for everyyone.  It's too late now, but here it is.

Have no Xbox One discs with no watermark, everything just uses UPC codes, and while the game is played from the hard drive, it will be required if it's a disc based version to check for that specific game.  Digital games, only allow them to be played offline on the console the main account was created on unless the account is transfered permanently to another console.  Allow it to play on a different console only if the account is online.

As for getting money from used game sales.  Microsoft could have got in contact with all governments that they plan on selling that passes a sort of law for video games to avoid the first sale doctrine only when selling to large corporations.  Any larger business like Gamestop, Best Buy, Blockbuster, etc, that sells used games would still be r equired to use their used games, but only when selling games.  It would only have to track UPC and how much money goes back to publishes/Microsoft for the game.

So this would benefit Microsoft and publishers, it would benefit consumers, it'd benefit independent game retailers.  The only people it wouldn't benefit, would be the larger used game retailers who would still make a lot of money on used games, just not as much.  The way it is now, everyone is getting screwed but Microsoft and publishers that follow this business model.

Basically the same as we have now, expect for larger retailers going through a system that tracks games sold by UPC only.

I thought exactly the same thing because their grudge is with Gamestop. And now they're putting the gamers in the mix also hurting us more than Gamestop.

Well said, and I agree. To me, it seems as if they're taking the route of selling fewer consoles with these measures instead of more consoles with something that allows it or something that satisfies both parties.
