While I don't know what Sony has planned in regards to used games; they already debunked the theory that this patent was being used for the PS4. It has nothing to do with the device at all.

Really?  I missed that.  Do you have a link?  Thanks.

Read down on the page a little.

Thanks.

Wonder what is up with that patent, then ...

is all right there

if the console does not need an internet connection u can bypass all the drm bs simply by not going online. This is a knight in shining armor compared to what MS is doing...

PlayStation 4 can still be enjoyed old school without an Internet connection at all.

I thought we were all clear on that. We all know there's no DRM, but that won't stop 3rd parties for doing it.

A "white knight" would be the one that stops 3rd parties from doing DRM. Simple put, if you want your game on our console, don't put DRM. That would be a white knight, Sony isn't.

what drm can they do? you cant go online without buying new? ok ill play single player all day....on xbone...u literally cant...

Sorry, but the white knight doesn't need to slay every dragon.

Zhukr does a good job of explaining it. Basically, businesses patent anything and everything and never use most of them

The same way they are doing online passes. The moment you insert the game you connect to the 3rd party publishers severs. Again, like I mentioned many times already: so far, the only difference is that it will be easier for 3rd parties to put DRM on the Xbone, while on the PS4 it will be "harder".

Then that white knight should not use that name if he can't save the princess from every dragon.

The big difference is this...

PS4 you can loan your friend a game if the publisher lets you (Publisher of game decides on DRM)

Xbox One you can't loan your friends a game at all (***Maybe in the future***)

"Loaning or renting games won’t be available at launch, but we are exploring the possibilities with our partners."

Not really almost the same thing... but spin as you wish

I think the vague responses and "answering without really answering" tactics we have seen by Sony would suggest that yes, what you see in terms of used games DRM on Xbone, you'll see on PS4 as well.

The only difference would be Gamestop might not have to jack into Sony servers just to buy a game off a customer like they would on Xbone. But publishers can take care of that easily enough with a serial number included in every game. Or, the disc based solution from this thread, which doesn't even require Internet.

The vague responses of flat out denying internet requirement and Ps4 being able to play used games (Also confirmed by gamestop).... okay, you just put your head in the sand some more buddy

You don't need an Internet connection... unless a 3rd party company requires it.
You can sell/buy/play used games... if a 3rd party company allows it.

When Sony actually comes out like MS did and gives some actual concrete stuff on how this works, something deeper than "well hey its up to 3rd parties" then you can talk about head in the sand little buddy.

Hey unless I am dated on some of this. In which case by all means, enlighten.
