The most important part of the specs for judging how much better Kinect 2 is compared to Kinect 1 (meaning the actual hardware, not some software-library running on the console) is the depth resolution. Unfortunately, that's exactly the part of the Kinect 2 specs that Microsoft has for some reason so far not released any information about. , one would have to know the resolution of the depth sensor - but for some reason |
ummm.... i thought the biggest improvement was going from a 1980 webcam that was actually crap to a 1080 hd one? and also the better infrared array. the crap can see buttons now. hopefully better mic array (that skype called did sound better)

it will, 99,99% sure... PS eye (never used it myself but read about it) uses a 4 mic array and can do noise cancelation and can be used in singstar... so it is almost impossible that kinect won't do it... the heart beat can be estimated by age, weight, gender, and breath. maybe kinect can "see" your chest inflate and defalte and with that calculate the heart beat. |
they said it was something in your face. journey would be an awesome kinect game if you had to walk haha.
Nothing new, I guess these specs still stand
6.75x camera resolution (640x480 -> 1920x1080)
33% lower latency (90ms -> 60ms)
22% wider field of view (57.5 degrees -> 70 degrees)
31% better horizontal resolution (5.6 pixels per degree -> 7.3 pixels per degree)
And a time of light camera which is supposed to have about 1 cm depth accuracy, which should be the same no matter the distance from the camera while the tech in Kinect 1 varies in accuracy from 1.5 mm at 50 cm to about 5 cm at 5 m
Interesting tech, yet quite modest upgrades in actual numbers (apart from the HD camera). Still no individual finger tracking, but at least it can now distinguish between open and closed hands.
I wonder how accurate the heartbeat and emotion sensing is. I guess we'll have to wait until it's out in the real world to see.
