I didn't know where to post this so I posted it here. Is there anything that I could buy that will allow me to hook my ps3 wii and 360 and other systems that use composite/component  to my computer monitor/computer and I could record games. My computer monitor uses VGA. I also want it to record gameplay. I don't want any lag and want to know what the cheapest price is for one. I  think it would be really convienent to have my consoles right by my computer so I don't have to move while having the option to record gameplay speedruns and walkthroughs. Would this be the same quality as if I bought vga cables for my 360 wii and ps3. Ive seen vga boxes but I don't thing I would be able to record gameplay using them. My only option right now is to buy the dazzle and a vga box. I just want to know if they have something that could do all this in one package rather than buying two seperate items.

You need to hook it to your computer, not to your monitor.

You need a video capture card/device, like these. Personally, I've never had one, so check the user reviews and such.

I have a regular TV tuner card, an ATI TV Wonder HD 650.

I'd need HD service to tell how you good HD looks on this, but all I've got is composite cables for things like videogames.

And I'll tell you simply, it's almost unusable for videogames. I get about 30 fps, though there's some compression onscreen sometimes, and I don't think I can find a way to play fullscreen, only a certain size of windowed play.

And using the software that came with my TV tuner card, there was about a second of lag from when I press A to jump, and seeing and hearing me actually jump. This is because my card has PVR, the setup that allows for recording, pausing, fast forwarding, rewinding, etc, of live TV. It needs about a second to buffer apparently...so games are unplayable with standard software.

Using VirtualDub, I have zero lag and solid 30 fps play...and it's about Divx Stage6 quality video if you understand what I'm saying. So I can play games and record them using VirtualDub as well.

The problem with recording is that it drops my play down to about 25 fps (recording was fine, smoother than my display for sure)...and that is noticeably choppy, but not terrible...just not anywhere near smooth. And I had to get an audio splitter for my speakers, because if I run the sound and TV card simultaneously, I cannot avoid the lag.

So not so simply in the end, if you can find a good capture card, let ME know, because it's given me a world of trouble. I think I'm going to get a composite video splitter, so that I can just play my Wii games on my TV above my monitor...but still be able to record videogames on my computer if I desire.

I heard certain USB capture devices are a good solution...they almost always have zero lag because of the USB 2.0 speed I suppose...but you need to make sure they have good video quality...I'm sure it's hit or miss.

Here's a test video I recorded a couple weeks ago. I don't think it looks that bad...it definitely got compressed a LOT through recording though...I need to work on the balance of quality vs. file size. The larger videos definitely look better than this, but then they get too big to upload online. Also, the ratio was wrong on this video...it's kinda hard to adjust the ratio without having to re-master the whole AVI file...it's either a 4:3 video or I set my Wii to 16:9 and then stretch the video later, meh. This is a 16:9 video that I forgot to stretch, so ignore the weird ratio:
