I'm partial to this.

Yeah this is so awesome... Never played Xenoblade so hearing it for the first time.

The following is nomal battle music from the final 1/3 (or so) of the game.

Yeah these guys knew where its at when they were making the soundtrack... Any game that incorporates shredding metal or techno/house music usually kicks ass.

So creepy and scary as you play.

A discussion about boss battle music just isn't right without Shadow of the Colossus.  The entire soundtrack is amazing!  Here is one track:

This is probably the best soundtrack I've heared in any game :)

I agree!  It's definitely one of the best out there.

@osed125

Yes, I like the track as well (I can easily listen to the entire OST).

How about this one, it's from the Sega Mega Drive time :P

Ah MegaDrive, my second love... even with its limited chipset it has some amazing boss tunes. Contra, Streets of Rage, Sonic, Vectorman all kicked ass...

Here is a genesis/Mega drive game a lot of people may have missed with a crazy good soundtrack.

It's been a while since I've heard that.  I always love the video game music from the 90's.  Returning to this generation, I think Nier had a good OST.

What struck me about Xenoblade's music is how effortly it bounds from calm, relaxing exploration to "OH SHIT I'M BEING CHASED BY A HILL-SIZED BEAST" and it just plain nails it.

@disolitude,

That's some hardcore gaming right there. The music was great as well. Weird that i have never heard of that game, i was a Sega junkie lol!

I'm with you. I dislike the use of ambience over music because music is so much richer and can invoke feelings in you. Its a powerful tool that devs nowadays are wasting.
