Forums - Nintendo - @Old Paper Mario Fans: Is Mario and Luigi the New Paper Mario?

Which do you prefer?

Mario and Luigi 20 71.43%

Paper Mario (new games) 8 28.57%

lol TK14, your post is so long it wont even show up completely when I quote it. Darn 3DS and it's character limit! But yeah I completely agree. Honestly, Super Paper Mario was more RPG like Sticker Star. You had an interesting story, unique characters and events, and experience points which made fighting not a pointless waste of time.

Am I considered too young to be able to have an opinion on the matter?

I'm sure that when I post this you'll say yes:
Paper Mario: Sticker Star wasn't a bad game and didn't damage the Paper Mario series. It was different, and maybe many of you didn't like that, but it wasn't bad. Changes can hurt us, I feel you... I feel you.

Baloney. I totally agree with what 1800Hernandez was saying on there (before his comments got banned for too many "negative" votes). Sad that people buy into that "it's on a handheld so you can't have an epic story" garbage. Fire Emblem: Awakening is one of my favorite games of all time and it managed to contain a pretty darn impressive story for "just being a handheld game." And also, there's no comparison between a 2D platformer and RPGs in terms of how "important" a story is. Miyamoto specializes in gameplay...he creates games based on the "feel" and thus you get action games like 2D and 3D Mario as well as Zelda. Those games are great..nothing wrong with that. But RPGs aren't really about the "feel"...they're more about the characters, the story, the progression and development you feel by levelling. And to me, getting a new page in my Sticker Book so I could carry more one-use, disposable stickers at a time is NOT the same as gaining levels, increasing stats, and feeling like your character is developing and becoming more powerful through your efforts in battle. Paper Mario has ALWAYS been a simplistic RPG series...RPG-lite if you will, but the first two STILL had levels and experiences points and things you could upgrade and improve. Plus partners helped add in a little strategy for battles. Sticker Star was like a puzzle game, you COULDN"T beat certain bosses unless you had brought the right "thing" sticker...and there was NO incentive for fighting random enemies in the field other than getting a couple weak stickers or coins to buy more weak stickers. Such a waste of Intelligent System's time and talent.

We'll see about the story + handheld thing if they ever make a console Paper Mario again ghrmfhgr I'm getting excited just thinking about it x___x

Yeah, I never bothered to get Sticker Star after seeing the footage/previews of it. I made that mistake with SPM.

I was sooo hyped for it when it was first revealed. I remember they showed a screenshot of a chain chomp partner, that would've been just awesome.

The real question should be is Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi the new Super Mario RPG?

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

I nominate Mario & Luigi, because at least those games share the same main composer as SMRPG.

I agree. It wasn't a bad game per se, it was just too different and therefore dissapointed many of the series' fans.

You made the right choice mate. I wish I woulda done the same, but like you I got hyped for it just after hearing it was back to turn based battles. I thought that was all I needed to know to make it an insta buy. Ended up making the biggest mistake of my gaming career. >.>

That was months ago and yet I'm still salty about it. Tis mainly because I coulda used that $40 on so many other games instead.

And...Super Paper Mario?

NintendoPie wasn't alive when that game released.

Then I can understand why she thinks that Sticker Star didn't damage the series.

It is a shame indeed.

I looooooved 999, but haven't been able to find a copy of this game. Is it as good?

Yeah, the story + handheld excuse is weak.
