The creator of the series said he wasn't working on it, not that it wasn't happening. There's a big difference.

Shigesato Itoi, the creator of the Mother series, doesn't work at Creatures Inc anymore, from what I can see.

Also, he didn't deny that an Earthbound game was in development, but that Mother 4 was in development. A lot of speculation is going around that it'll be a port of Earthbound to modern platforms (which would probably mean a remake).

He seemed to be involved in the process of bringing Earthbound/Mother 2 to the Wii U Virtual Console. Which, by the way, I doubt would have been a priority for Nintendo if they were planning some kind of remake of any of the titles in the series.

Again, "realistic" just isn't the right word here by a long shot.

I think you missed the key point I made - that he didn't deny that the game was being made, he denied that he was making it. The point about the remake idea was to demonstrate that there are a lot of holes in the assumption that there is no Earthbound U just because Itoi made that statement.
