Oh, cool. The Xbox One will give me access to Game of Thrones? No more HBO!

of course it will deliver game of thrones.  all you need is a cable box with a cable subscription and an upgrade to HBO..

Which is really the killer of the whole set of TV features.  It would have been different if MS actually had an extra HDD inside to work as a DVR and had rolled out their own internet cable service, possibly tied to Live to help justify the price.  But, the fact that it requires a cable box for all of those features completely destroys the reasoning for calling it the One.  Add a few external HDDs, for when your 500GB HDD fills up, and it becomes more like Xbox Four.

Please forgive my ignorance, but is there an extra fee required to use the TV functions, on top of the already mandatory XBLG fee?

I would think the only extra few would be from your cable provider for the cable and DVR.  But honestly, who knows?  You may have to pay extra for the Xbox channel.

Yeah. For Halloween you could set them up like tombstones and make a little external hdd graveyard.

Yeah...you need Cable or satelite service..your cable or satelite box connects to you TV..Xbone then will let you watch TV through it's connetion to the TV which your Cable box is connected trhough separate port...And fees to stuff like ESPN or HBO Go to name a few examples require separete subscrition from Xbox Live you wont need Xbox Live to wacth tv though..But the point is to make Web features that Broadcast networks offer available on the Xbone..which no seems to understand

@Zizzla. Oh yeah. I understand you need an existing cable service. I was wondering about an extra fee from Microsoft. And it looks like the answer is no. Which is good of course. More bang for your XBLG buck.

yeah seriously.  when rumors over the last couple of years said MS was creating partnerships with cable companies i didn't think we'd get this.  i thought that we'd finally get the one thing i've wanted for years..  the ability to subscribe to individual channels.  that would have gotten my attention.

no one officially knows.  i'd assume that tv wouldn't (same as a dvd or blu ray) but the additional services like the live guide are behind xbl.

@kitler53. My ISP/Cable service was promising individual channel subscriptions were right around the corner 20 years ago. Not their fault it hasn't happened. The CRTC has seen to that. I doubt we'll ever get that kind of freedom, moreso in Canada than the U.S.
