Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft "rounding up answers" on Xbox One's DRM stance

You shouldn't have to find out the answers, it's not a mystery to people in the know. He's just finding a way to put a decent soon on it all

There is a timeline for revealing this information. Console launches have information sent out spaced out across the year.

Now its about reevaluating that and just revealing it all now to give some piece of mind. It also may not be a mystery, but polocies can change at the same time as well.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Looking forward to it!

Of course they look good when you're the one selling the machine.

Love the double standards. PS execs say they are listening while higher ups are still silent = Sony is amazing.

MS sends word they are listening and that the answers are coming that look good for us = MS still doesn't care about us.

I very much think Sony will be implementing DRM, but I think it will be related to Gaikai more then the actual discs.

This has to be frustrating for Xbox fans, or for anyone that was interested in the XO after the reveal. These answers and clarifications should have been ready days ago, especially given that many of the "inaccurate and incomplete" reports came from Microsoft sources. Even beyond that, they should never have spoken about things they couldn't clarify or that they only had incomplete answers for. They really need to get their act together for E3 and get everyone on the same page. I bet there were some really uncomfortable meetings in Microsoft-land. Perhaps this whole fiasco will have them double-ready for the next presentation.

This entire situation has had a very "too many chefs in the kitchen" feel.

I can tell you it's not that frustrating. I kept calm all the days after the release because there were so many rumors and contradicting messages that I knew at some time before E3 they had to clarify things.

Let me see what they have to tell us now and show me the games. I won't care what was before and most customers won't do, too. After I know all *facts* and the games I will decide.

The only way you should look at it.

Only thing is this viral meltdown is affecting people and it will be harder afterwards to get them back on the hype-train. This bashing reaches a lot more people than some actual good news would.

It's not just bashing, though.  It's called F.U.D.  And it's quite calculated and deliberate.

The system won't be out for like 5 months.  Not knowing everything about it right now isn't frustrating at all, just like not knowing what the PS4 actually looks like isn't frustrating at all.  Reasonable people know that all of this will be sorted out and communicated in plenty of time before launch.

The only issue I see forthcoming is that whatever they say will not be enough for every possible situation 'people' can come up with and it'll still be discussed in a strongly negative light.  Pretty sure of that ...

I'm not talking about not knowing.  Not knowing is fine.  If things aren't finalized or if there are details that customers might not like then there is no need to speak of those things at a reveal.  It's simply not the best venue for that.  I'm almost certain that there will be things about the PS4 that we won't like but Sony smartly managed to keep the reveal mostly positive.  I expected the same from Microsoft.

What I am talking about is giving confusing and muddled answers that lead people to believe things that aren't true.  That's exactly what you want to avoid.  It's fine if you say that hasn't bothered you but it's obvious there are Xbox fans who have been bothered by it, and just as important, potential customers who got a negative initial impression.  It's not really that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, far from it, but it was just unnecessary to start with.

That's good, and obviously the best way to approach things, but I've seen people who were disappointed after the first round of Q&As from Microsoft PR people.

Regardless, I can't wait for E3, though part of me does feel that both Microsoft and Sony might hold off on the negative stuff until afterwards.

Sony patented technology a long time ago to block used game.  It never came up much in discussion about the PS4.  It was not brought up at the reveal.  After the reveal, it was asked and there were several answers given that were confusing, but it was not pressed by the media or by ;gamers'.

Rumors about the next Xbox blocking used games came up.  The 'internet' swarmed around them and talked about them endlessly.  It was not brought up at the reveal.  After the reveal, the media pressed hard about it and there were several answers given that were confusing.  The media and 'gamers' lunged at the their throats about it.

So how is it that the Xbox One became synonymous with blocking used games and DRM and the PS4 got a pass?  If you think I'm seeing things where there aren't, check the comments or threads on stories about possible PS4 used game blocking and DRM and witness a completely different tenor toward them.  Yeah ...
