I was just playing the game Lord of the Rings War in the North for the second time now (first playthrough on PC and started with PS3 version thanks to + now) and I thought of how great it might be if War in the North actually became a movie. There is more than enough of information, story and set-pieces to make a 2 movie arc.  Certainly in order for the movie to work some things should change but I think it is really possible and I'm hoping that after the third Hobbit movie we'll see more of Lord of the RIngs in theaters. What do you guys think? Is it possible and how should Peter Jackson if given the task handle this?

The second/third Hobbit movies are meant to incorporate a lot of random stuff Tolkien wrote in manuscripts and other books nothing to do with The Hobbit book.

So the studios are already going in the direction of making anything with the name LOTR on it.

There may be a problem if Tolkien's Estate refuse to grant permission though. They won't like non-Tolkien material being sold with his name.

They could certainly flesh out what we already know about the war between Arnor and Angmar, and later the strife between Arthedain, Cardolan, and Rhudaur, leading to the end of the North Kingdom and the final battle of Earnur of Gondor against the Witch King (leading to his later defeat at the hands of the Witch King down in Minas Morgul)

A better idea would be a TV series based on The Silmarillion.
