Forums - Gaming - Should I consider getting Sonic Generations for the 3DS when I already have the PS3 version?

Haven't played it, but it's a completly different game from the console versions. It's also completly 2D, the modern stages are supposed to be like Rush and the classic stages play lik Sonic 4, from what I've heard.

As implied in the OP, I loved the Rush games so that's a major plus in my book. I never played Sonic 4 though. Are it's physics comparable to the original 16-bit Sonic games?

It's supposed to replicate the controls and feel of the 16-bit games, but it didn't quite nail it.  Never played the 3DS generatiosn though, so I don't know how it feels.... it is SUPPOSED to be 16-bit Sonic though.

May as well just wait for Lost World, right?

The game is a letdown. Only 14 levels, 7 bonus stages (Sonic Heroes style, i.e. tubes), 7 bosses. Only half of the levels are Sonic Rush style, the other half is fat Sonic style. There are also 100 missions to unlock, but the vast majority of them require 3DS coins, because there's no in-game way to unlock them.

The game is different from the home console versions (there are also at least some different stage themes), it's just not particularly good.

Hmm, well I don't think it'd be that much of an issue to me that the game is short, as I'll likely enjoy the game enough to keep playing it for a good while after beating it like most other Sonic games. I haven't had any other reason to use mah play coins so I don't think it'll be an issue accessing those missions. Also, maybe I'm reading into it wrong, but it seems like you made it sound as though it's a chore playing as Classic Sonic. If so why is this?

Not a must have.

Why nots? D:

2 Sonic theme isnt relevant. They both play nearly identical. It doesnt help that Classic gets homing attack after first zone. The boss battles are pretty boring too with the awesome character battes from console version being just race to finish.

lol whut? Classic Sonic can homing attack? That doesn't seem very classical! Well I guess I shall take your all yals word for it as I'm guessing yal have played the game. To the bottom of my games to get list it goes, which basically means I'll never end up getting it. :L

To be honest, if you have already played the superior PS3 version, why get the 3DS version? Just for the 3D effect?

Psh no, 3DS n PS3 versions are not the same.

Because classic Sonic feels like gimped Sonic Rush Sonic which means a good portion of the game isn't as good as it should be. All the more negative when there isn't much game to begin with.

Unlocking a mission costs five 3DS coins. About 20 missions get unlocked through various things in the game, that leaves 80. 80x5=400, that's a lot of coins. You can store up to 300 coins on your 3DS, so that's at least another ten extra days you need to play everything in this short game. Most of the missions are throwaway material anyway. I have coins sitting on my 3DS, but didn't bother to go back to Sonic Generations. The game is just too boring.

Ah gotcha, guess that solidifies what I said earlier, being that I wont bothering with this game. Like The_dengle said, Lost Worlds will be next my next Sonic endeavor! ^_^

Definitly get it. Its a completely different game.

I enjoyed it alot more than the main console version cause its full 2D gameplay.

The 3DS version probably has less in it. Am I right? Or are you just doing it for the 3D effect?

Erm, read my previous post again. I can't imagine anyone buying a game or a system just for the 3D effect alone, certainly not me anyway. I don't think I would even use it in a fast paced game like this as I couldn't afford having the screen blur up on me. The PS3 versions 3D is much better since I don't have to worry about that and it has more depth.

Well like I said, if I get around to it, which I probably wont tbh.

Oh, you have decided not to get it. Ok, then.

I hope leave with here with the understanding that 3D is generally a nonfactor when choosing games, especially when both games have 3D. :P
