Forums - Gaming - Could E3 actually be good this year?

Let’s be frank, for the last couple of years E3 sucked for gamers. With Microsoft and Sony focused on trying to bring in new customer via Kinect, Move, Wonderbook, SmartGlass and other casual luring gimmicks and with Nintendo trying their hardest to screw up the Wii U launch (a resounding success by the way!), E3 has fallen short of gamer’s expectations more often than not since 2010.

In fact, last year I promised myself I would never get hyped for E3 ever again. Unfortunately, it seems I’m a very unreliable man because as E3 gets closer and closer, I suddenly get this feeling that this year’s show might actually be good.

What makes me say that you say? Because I believe this time around the focus will be on games... traditional games. Why you say? Because the big 3 are all looking to convince customers to buy their expensive new consoles and the people most likely the shell out the big bucks for a gaming device are the hardcore gamers. What do hardcore gamers want? They want to see games, tons of games, enough games to make them wait in line at midnight on launch day to buy a new console.

So there you have it, I’m feeling very positive about the coming E3 show because I believe it will be catered towards me (yes I’m very selfish as well as unreliable)

maybe. I'm waiting nothing, so I cannot be disappointed, but still there is hope

Possibly.

Here's what I'm hoping for...

Microsoft reveals Crackdown 3 for Xbox One. I am for once legitimately impressed by Microsoft.

Nintendo reveals Metroid Prime 4 for Wii U. Wii U immediately becomes a must-have.

Sony announces Jak 4 for PS4. I become a NintenSony gamer once more.

Thief. I must have it... either on PC or PS4 depending on what goes down.

Last year I really like Sony's conference other than Wonderbook. Didn't watch the others just highlights and the Nintendo Direct beforehand which was ok. I expect Nintendo and Sony to be better this year but of course my eyes will be glued to Sony's even more so just because I know what to expect from Nintendo (Smash, Mario Kart, and 3D Mario all of which I'll buy in 2014 when I buy WiiU on BF bundle). Who knows what Sony first parties will show up?

I normally don't get my hopes up for rumors, but this is a very special case. I can't help to wonder what if this happens...

Pretty much this.... I was thinking, from here, how could they possibly screw up? Last few years of E3 clearly taught me nothing!!

I think so Trucks.

For Nintendo, it's a certainty. They made it clear that this year's E3 will be all about games. Y/X is even getting its own Nintendo Direct, all to itself. That's putting the focus on games right there, above and beyond their insistence on getting demoes out there for many games. I just wouldn't get too too hyped about unannounced games or new IPs but there will be at least a surprise or 2 for the U, as is custom.

For Sony, their showcase was all about the games, with much greater reason this year's E3.

For Microsoft, if their showcase focus wasn't about the games, I'm not sure why their e3 would be if the company's vision isn't aligned with that. On the flipside, having not shown games at the showcase may mean they left that for e3, which is a gaming convention after all. So maybe that's the scenario for Microsoft.

Whether only 2 or all 3 of the makers showing games, either way it will be big on games, so I think you'll be pleased.

but no, i get how last years E3 sucked. (well i dont get how nintedo's did) but third parties, sony and MS were obviously creating stuff for ps4 and X1 and were quiet about it. now they should have a lot of stuff to talk about. im not expecting the best E3 of all time, but im expecting a damn good show, from console makers and third parties. nevertheless, i have my LMG fully loaded and ready
