Forums - Gaming Discussion - PS4 has "50% more raw power" in graphics than Xbox One, says report

They obviously had to sacrifice some power in order to bundle a Kinect and still give it to us for a reasonable price. It's the same thing as with the Wii U to a degree.

It's funny though, because last gen the 360 was weaker and thus easier to develop for, and as a result multiplats were way better on the system. Is there a chance of the same thing happening again?

no it's not.

It seems that Gen 8 is a repeat of Gen 7. Wii U the weakest console in the graphics departement, Xbox One and PS4 close to each other, with PS3 and PS4 having more power than their respectful counterparts.

So PS4 vs Xbox One difference is around 50% in favor of PS4.

% difference between Xbox One vs Wii U? Wii U x 3 = Xbox One? more? less?

How big was the Wii vs Xbox360 difference?

it's more like wii u x 2 = xbox one.

wii x 22 = xbox 360.

More - if WiiU's GPU is indeed 320 shader part as rumored, then One is around 5x WiiU and PS4 is around 7-8x.

360 is around 8x Wii. (this is educated guess after lot of time researching the matter back in a day)

Ok, so lets say One is 4.5x Wii U based on your numbers and DieAppleDie numbers. If Xbox One is used as the main console for development and the difference is not as big as the last generation, could the WiiU get more support?

Will the third parties take advantage of the extra power of the PS4, or they will develop only thinking on the One?

The PS4's GPU is 50% faster and the RAM is also 70% faster than the Xbox One's.

What this means is higher framerates, better AA, lighting, and since they have more RAM reserved for games more things on the screen and better looking games overall, that can be mad with minimal effort due to having the same architecture.

Also, if the PS4 sells well I'm pretty sure multplats will cater to it and downscale the games to Xbox 1 and the Wii U, and even if they developed with the One in mind the framerate difference will be there, and really it's nothing to make better AA for the more powerful system, so all multiplats will look better on PS4 due to the rather large difference in power.

Come, now. Let's not pretend that a decent chunk of the Wii U's cost isn't due to that controller.

The GPU is not the only difference... there are more.

ROPs: 16 (Xbone) vs 32 (PS4)
Queued Pipelines x ACEs: 2x2 (Xbone) vs 8x8 (PS4)

I think there are even more.

means nothing if devs dont take advantage of it

im sure 1st party will do good with the ps4 but the majority of games and ones being sold are 3rd party im typically intrusted in only a few 1st party games per gen

yes but according to devs the PS4's power will be a lot easier to tap than PS3's.  Hopefully we'll see that taken advantage of even in multiplats with simple stuff like higher framerate (or more stable) or better draw distances and stuff like that (stuff that will be upgraded for PC anyways so should be convertable to PS4 easily).  Even if multiplats are the same Naughty Dog and Sony Santa Monica will make me drool cause they're still doing that with 8 year old hardware.

more like 3/4 times by gpu flops if its said 320 part

You can't really compare different GPU's by their FLOPS only...but you can look at real time tests or test aggregates of comparable GPUs and than draw some conclusions.

So, if  WiiU's GPU is indeed 320 shader part that makes it either Redwood LE (5550) or RV730 (4650) shrank to 40nm, One has 7770 equivalent, while PS4 has 7850+ equivalent....of course, neither of these GPUs are completely off the shelf parts, so this is just approximation (or starting point) for them, based on what we currently know.

Anyway, when you do compare them you get to the ratios I already posted (or even slightly more, to be honest).

I think in theory WiiU could get much more support - then again (I posted this in some other thread) I think it's really the combination of 2 separate problems with 3rd party support and WiiU - first being user base, and second being weak hardware. Later cannot be changed (unfortunately), otherwise I believe we would most certainly see way more support no matter the user base, but I'm not sure that problem number 1 will (or could) be fixed any time soon.

As for development, the way things look now, I'm not so certain One will be lead platform...unlike current gen where 360 had more or less the same power as PS3, but was much easier to work with, PS4 seems to have quite a bit more power that can be easily tapped...and devs seems to like it a lot.
