Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's new revenue stream - peripherals

Fax

Tis true.
But its true for all.

Plus, Nintendo saves you money by splitting the controller (at least in the US).

Wiimote $40
Numchuck $20

PS3 Controller $60
X360 Controller $60

Of course, this has been around as long as there have been systems.

Third-party improved joysticks, specialized keyboard controllers, second set of paddles for your Atari 2600.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

I am Mario.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

You also need your Wii SD card, a Wii battery charger (they(nintendo) really should release one) and your Wii carrying bag, since you'll want to take it and show it to everyone

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Nintendo should also put out their own wireless IR sensor bar and USB keyboard.

If you're going to include the balance board, you might as well include the guitar peripheral for Guitar Hero, and don't forget to include all the Rock Band peripherals on the 360/PS3, as well as the EyeToy camera.

Also -- you forgot the Zapper. You need 4 of those, complete with 4 copies of Link's Crossbow Training. :)

To be honest I don't think this is new at all. There have always been peripherals and the other current systems also have them.

Lets not forget Guitar Hero & Rockband you need a good couple of controllers there.

No but seriously. I dont mean that to critizie Nintendo in any way. It truly is a smart business decision. Maybe we need to start tracking sales of peripherals.

@mike: yes, controllers have been around for some time. but such a massive influx of first party peripherals is just astounding...

Peripherals have always been about. Nintendo is manging to sell a truckload though so its a much bigger revenue stream than before.

^Well, I don't have classic controllers haha. I barely have a Wiimote and a chuk :(

I think you guys are missing my point. Nintendo has effectively started to sell three (with the nunchuck four) distinct controllers for the Wii. Without anyone complaining. I mean seeing all those GC controllers being sold with SSBB just triggered this thought process.

Its like: new game? no problem, we have the perfect input peripheral for the game.

And I am talking about 1st party here.

I have 2 Wiimotes, 2 Nunchuks, 4 Classics, 4 Gamecubes. Missing Wii Fit board. But will really love to have WiiWheels and Johnny Lee's IR spectacles.

I think in the future they should release an Wiimote attachment for mic.
