Forums - Gaming - Splitscreen is "sooo PS2"

Yup... finally found the true definition for hardcore...
Would rather play games alone instead of with friends.

Splitscreen is too much PS2... In other words, most popular of last gen. Definitely not the best way to describe PS3. Splitscreen is onlyworthy for the most popular console, the wii.

I Completely agree. Of course splitscreen is costly (you essentially double the polygon-count so you either have to use less resources (and have a worse looking game) or you have to reduce details in Splitscreen (which is work intensive)

So I understand it that games where only few people use the feature go without it (FPS) but for a freaking racing game??????

Racing games alone are more boring than War&Piece on Valium, but they are great fun when racing against other people. Its absolutely ridiculous. Having no Splitscreen mode reduced Motorstorm from a really good game to a beautiful boring demo I played for one hour. (I got it bundled)

I agree, there needs to be more focus on actual interaction with friends. Playing Halo 3 online can't begin to compare to 4 player split screen Golden eye. I dunno why they are moving away from actual human interaction. All I can say is "I can't wait for brawl! Online and in person!"

I get the impression you don't know this, but Halo 3 does have 4 player splitscreen.

I do agree with the OP though. I am getting real irritated with the trend of late to have online but no split screen. There have been a few games now, that I bought for splitscreen, only to realize I was an idiot and didn't research it enough, and the game only had online multiplayer.

Personally, I think any game that has online multiplayer should have a splitscreen ability too. It's been getting on my nerves. ::grump, grump grump::

In my experience most people that put down Halo 3 haven't actually played it.

The wii should rub off its local multiplayer and the 360 and somewhat the ps3 should rub off some of their online to the wii. Then everybody gets what they want.

What are you talking about!?

How could you not understand that. It means the wii having good LM should be copied by the ps3 and xbox 360 and the wii should copy good online.

uhh Dude get your own!

splitscreen is old school, and your level of play dimishes on the cramped screen

The biggest advantage consoles have over PC gaming is convenient local gaming. I want split screen in any FPS game I buy because my brother and I want to rock the game together. If publishers do not push for split screen in games, then consoles are taking a step backward and losing thee only true stable ground that is had over PC.

It is too expensive to buy two Wii consoles and two copies of Battalion Wars II just so my brother and I can play co-op in the same house. That game lost my purchase based on that factor alone.

I cannot imagine considering the cost for the same situation with XBOX 360 or Playstation 3. Especially when Live cost money.

Some of my best memories growing up are the great moments we spent with my friends playing Super mario kart on SNES on splitscreen, at least for me it will always be better to play some splitscreen with my friends that the so called "nex gen " multiplayer.
