Forums - Microsoft - XBOX ONE requires a fee to play used games. And if the game is new the fee is $60!

http://majornelson.com/2013/05/21/xbox-one-and-used-games/

Games are resellable at retail, so it can't be that the fee is even near full price, or else one would have to pay more for a used game than for a new game.

This could be up there with the New Coke debacle as one of the dumbest business moves ever.

Thats the last straw. If the rumors of Sonys launch price are true MS is screwed. Theres no way the 720 is launching for less than $500 being bundled with the Kinect.

I was talking about how much of a fee they would charge. Seems like it's 60$... welp, that's not good!

thats a pity....

RIP console gaming

Do not ever equate MS fuck up to the end of console gaming. Console gaming was just fine before they came. They came and brought competent online to us and thank you for Halo, that enough is enough. MS doesn't speak for Sony and Nintendo. A lot of MS games werent even truly exclusive but rather Xbox/PC ports.

Why is MS allowing all this confusion?

Because Phil harrison opened his mouth further ontop of MS already opening their mouths about games being tied to accounts through manditory installs and you incuring fees.

Fired for speaking at the wrong time.

Oh my god every negative rumor turned out to be true.

No Used Games (Check)
Always Online (Just once a day online well almost check)
Kinect mandatory (Check)
Weaker than PS4 (Check)

Nope. If Sony screws up like that too I go PC only next gen and Wii U once X releases. This is pathetic. I hate what they are doing. I thought Nintendo screwed up but nope they didn't compared to this mess.

Well maybe the COD crowd will like it until they notice how screwed they are.

It is the same way Steam works. I never heard anyone complain about that.
Actually it is more user friendly, because you can sell the game for a fee. Steam does not offer this option at all.

dafuq?  if you buy a PC retail game, you install it, and you register your activation key with your account so you can re-download it again if you wish; but if you give the disk to a friend; as long as he has the actual disk on his disk- tray he cant play the game without having to pay a thing.   The disk is not attached to your account, the activation code that comes with the disk, is.

Are you sure? Aren't Blizzard games tied to your account and allow only one user? Diablo III and Starcraft 2?

Older games and games that aren't tied to a major service are like that. Blizzard games, Steam games, and I believe Origin games are tied to the account and will only work on that account.

Hey, if you buy used, the fee will still make it cheaper then paying full price.

But in the end, its to encourage smart buying and keeping what you own.

No big deal here people.

what about people like me who rent games cause 60$ is a lot of money and i can't buy every game that comes out

I'm wondering about that too.. They still have to clear some things up because are you telling me they are effectively killing off the game rental business all at the same time? if so thats ridiculous
