Forums - Gaming - Quick Topic: Are third parties important as we think they are?

Thank you for stating the obvious.....

Sorry, but you seemed to think that sales don't matter. It looked like you were just pushing them off as "Meh... quality is better." (Which I don't completely dis-agree with, by the way.)

No need to be so snappy!

Check my edit and what made you think that I think sales dont matter?

=/= means not equal or at least that is how I put it. If I cared about quality more than sales then I would of posted Quality > Sales.

No need to jump to conclusions!

Well, your edit wasn't there when I was quoting you. So thank you for clarifying.

Yes. It is important.

Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs are considered great games even though the expected sales were seen as a failure to the developer/publisher.

Sales =/= Quality

But Sales does = Business and Business = Life (for the company.)

Thank you for stating the obvious.....again sales do not equal quality otherwise people on these forums would be glorifying over CoD.

Thats not the point tho. A game can have the best quality ever but if it doesnt sell well it wont make money and the company wont be able to make quality games anymore. That was the entire point of the OP.

That's what I was making my point about to him. But he obviously agrees with my point, I just didn't see it at first.

Nope. Third parties are doomed and will have to go first party.

Seriously, how do you do it? :D

I know he never misses!  Badgenome should host an E3 conference

Why did a post supposedly about third party developers/publishers turn into a doom forecast for Sony?

To be honest these days the only 3rd parties i give a care about are Capcom for the most part, Squeenix on the west branch mainly and Namco when they decide to localise their RPG's.

I know that if the sales dont match up - it'll mean bad for the business who developed/produced the game but that doesnt mean third party involvement should be considered not important. Anyone who says that they arent important must have an agenda or might be on the short side of the stick that gets the support lol.

That was definitely not my point when I first quoted you. Did you think I meant that? (Bolded in the italics...)

Of course they're important.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/profile/92109/nintendopie/ Nintendopie  Was obviously right and I was obviously wrong. I will forever be a lesser being than them. (6/16/13)

Well lets look at it this way.

The two examples that were posted : Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider.

1. Both games are available on PC (which can easily be pirated).
2. Tomb Raider was a reboot of the original - so people's expectations especially after the many flops of previous Tomb Raider games before it were lower than you would expect for a typical person to be hyped up about. Many people were complaining that SE could mess it up, be a clone of uncharted, not as good as the originals etc.
3. Sleeping Dogs can be considered a new IP, some IPs sell well if hyped up well - Sleeping Dogs was unfortunate though despite the advertisment and everything it was given. Again people's expectations were lower.
4. Possibly could be because of Squareenix's track record.

I know that if the sales dont match up - it'll mean bad for the business who developed/produced the game but that doesnt mean third party involvement should be considered not important. I wasnt trying to say 3rd parties arent Iimportant, they def are, especially on MS/Sony consoles.

The thread title and OP kinda confuse me, they dont really seem to have anything to do with each other and I think thats why me u and Nintendo Pie arent really connecting despite agreeing with each other
