Halo makes Microsoft more money than GT can ever idle (dream) of.

Halo is a media Juggernaut. Just Call Of Duty rivals Halo when it releases.

GT is a urban legend like Fifa that people buy nonetheless because of the name. Just like the brand Play Station. Xbox sells way more software than PS3 for example but most people in Europe that bought PS3 bought it for B-ray and word of mouth.

And also as I strolled through European gaming websites I observed a great dislike for Xbox because it represents American hegemony.

Back in topic, Halo is not just game anymore. It's anime/animation, it's a tv series and more likely it will become a silver screen product. All branched out from the magnificence of the Halo games.

Xbox sells way more software? How? If you look at recent data PS3 was on top pretty much every week this year and the big releases this year (like Gran Turismo) will only reduce the relatively small lead X360 have over PS3 (if you use the numbers of this site, they don't track a lot of PS3 games in Japan). Plus, in this generation Sony probably sold a few hundred million games for PS2 so if you combine them, in the timeframe of this generation Playstation sold more software anyways.. If you want to look at the big picture Xbox brand need to sell 1.7 billion games just to catch the PS2.

I don't see how this equates to selling way more software.

I never played gt and never will(racing sims are sooooooooo boring) and HALO just rocks

Relevant (not)

OT: It really just depends on how you want to look at it. I'd say they are about equal size now, as seen by the sales numbers of recent titles. But, GT was bigger than Halo last gen, and obviously had a whole gen where there was no Halo. I just find it amazing how a racing game has managed to stay on top for so long

And your post is relevant

No question, Halo.

Gran Turismo couldn't maintain sales as strong if it released as frequently as Halo games.

CoD started releasing once per year and sales increased. AC did the same. Where's the proof?

For one Halo doesn't release once a year, Ubisoft have stated that they expect a weaker sales for the new AC game, And you shall see when GT6 is released if it has a bigger opening than Halo 4 than it's a bigger franchise (Simple), And if it has a bigger opening than GT5 it's  on the increase and can withstand multiple releases

Halo 3 2007

Halo wars & odst 2009

Halo reach 2010

Halo anniversary 2011

Halo 4 2012. Averages out to one a year.

First of all two of those games are hd remakes, and the other three aren't even mainline franchises (One is a RTS), and it still disproves halo releasing annually considering there was no release in 2008 and 2013. Do you even know what annually means?

2013 isn't over yet...

Microsoft themselves have said they want to have a annual Halo release.

Link to a reputable source please. Yes, no N4G.

Well maybe not said directly, but they really have hinted that they want yearly Halo releases (or something close to that).

The fact that we've had yearly Halo releases since 2009 is a bit telling as well.

Another Halo vs GT thread? Ok I guess I can go OT:

GT sells more per game then Halo. GT is the biggest racer among all racers. Halo is 2nd biggest FPS among all FPS. However due to high development times for GT, more Halo's get released. Halo has definitely been bigger then GT this generation. FPS has definitely been bigger then racers this generation. GT is quite a leggy game. Halo is very front loaded, but recently with Halo 4 has been pretty leggy. GT6 may or may not sell that much. Halo 5 will probably be released before GT7. Possibly even Halo 6.

This always bugs me. GT5:P is obviously not a true demo. It's a full-fledged game.

The main reason why it sold so well was because people were hungry for a next gen GT. They had been waiting for a very long time since GT4 and when a GT game came out at a budget price, they went in droves to buy it. The same scenario would happen with any big game whether it be COD, Halo, or Mario.

Gran Turismo because it has sold more.

Not this gen.

But GT4 might change that!

Not one thing you said is the truth, but I agree.......

Can you point out the flaws in my opinion?

a: You have no idea how much GT makes for Sony

b:  Sony sells as much sftware as the MS if not more  if it wasnt for the year start.

c: Being big in America doesnt mean it's bigger than anything elsewhere

d: COD has no rival, none

e: Fifa gets bigger every year and sells more than Halo

f: Playsation sells more hardware, software than xbox in Europe.

a: I'm sure GT doesn't sell DLCs like Halo or make people sign up for a subscription based online community like Halo.

b: Sony doesn't sell equal amount of multi-plat software like MS do on 90% of the games( exception to titles that were exclusive to PS, like Metal Gear). Check the charts.

c: Being big in America sometimes means selling more than worldwide. Xbox is a proof of that. Xbox doesn't sell in Japan and it's way behind in Europe but it managed to be in front of PS3 for the whole generation until now. It managed that just by trouncing competition in the US of A for the last 4 or so years.

d: Halo is exclusive to Xbox but everytime it comes out it shoulders with COD in terms of numbers. Halo 4 is on its way to double digits.

e: Fifa doesn't sell more than Halo on Xbox and you can add up PS3 and Xbox numbers and you get about what Halo sells just in Xbox.

f: That's true but if you compare Europe's software sales for most of the games, they're tiny compared to North America. Remember that MS profits with Halo also on DLC and it helps boost Xbox Live subscription; that's around $100 dollars a game for you buddy. Halo is a juggernaut.

Now I can tell you why COD blew up. US and the world live in a period where wars are all over the news and military/soldier theme looks good on any visual medium. Even Dark Zero made money.

Halo is a Sci-fi/Fantasy/Adventure where this theme is not what dominates the actuality but it still moves the genre on its own. It doesn't ride any hype but the one that itself created.
