The decision to price the PS3 version of Devil May Cry 4 £10 higher than the Xbox 360 version came from retailers, not publisher Capcom, VideoGamer.com has learned.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, a spokesperson for Capcom said: "We don't set the prices of our games, that's at the discretion of the retailer. In this specific instance, the process has resulted in a price difference, but the process itself is not something we completely control."

While DMC4 is certainly not the first multi-format game to be more expensive on the PS3, in this case some PS3 owners have complained at the higher price for what is essentially the same game on a different console.

High street specialist retailer GAME lists DMC4 with an RRP of £49.99 on PS3 and £39.99 on Xbox 360. Both Play.com and Amazon.co.uk list the same pricing.

I think this price difference is crazy. I don't understand why retails would price one at £10 higher than the other. So Much for DMC4 Selling PS3s, its more likely to sell X360s. I think X360 will sell more copies than PS3 in the EU because of this.

Well i guess they figure that once you've dropped a ridiculous amount of cash on a console with a limited game library, you'll pay the extra for a half-decent game.

just buy it through Amazon then, if people are smart enough for that.

Also, DMC isn't a console seller, it's not like people will go.. "Wait, this game is 10 bucks cheaper on xbox, let's get the xbox console then"

I'd guess Game just realizes that Europeons are really brand loyal to PS and willing to pay the difference and therefore are sticking it to them. They don't have much competition in europe right?

 Maybe an extra dollar or two?  Though cut, sony's liscensing fee's are still reportidly the most expensive by a couple dollars.  So capcom may charge more to make up the difference.

Or it might be the retailers' way of breaking even due to the PS3's smaller install base (overall).

Either way Microsoft has to love it.  "Come and buy DMC4 for the 360; not only might it look a little nicer but it's $10 cheaper too!"
