Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo mass "claiming" LP videos on youtube *Updated*

This is one of the threads where i would like to be able to create a alternative reality where Sony and Microsoft do the same thing, just to compare the difference in some users reactions.

It's a stupid idea no matter who does it.

Thankfully (kinda xD) I don't get anywhere near enough views to make an amount of money that Nintendo would be interested in, but this is still concerning

Nintendo has to make up for those Wii U losses somehow.

that is offensive and moderation worthy if you ask me WHERES THE SMILEY?

Not sure how it's offensive or moderation worthy. It's true. Nintendo is losing money on the Wii U so why not use another method such as this to recoup costs?

Imagine there was a "Let's watch" community. People who upload videos of their commentary as they watch entire movies. How long do you think such videos would last on YouTube?

Not quite the same thing, I know, but I thought it might bring a little perspective. Well, for some games, it actually would be the same thing...

R.I.P.

Just got a message from my partner company and they said it could eventually affect my account standing (which is my main concern) - so...damn looks like I might have to delete...1000+ videos on my youtube account if a deal doesnt come through XDDDDD.

They say they are currently discussing it with their head company who represents them and trying to contact Nintendo.

R.I.P. - oh well I can still upload it on my alternate channel which doesnt have any partnership at all lol.

Edit: 1179 videos exactly ouch l0l - actually its less than that since some of the videos in my playlist are on my alt channel (probably like 5-10).

Wow didnt know I had that much Nintendo content o.o.

912 videos are from third parties or intro videos I made.

That's horrible ><

Updated the OP with Nintendo's response; an interview with "Thomas was alone" developer about it (it isn't the best piece imo, but it's relevant) and a couple of reddit links.

I'm sorry to hear that, Basil.  Still, there's a chance it'll all turn out okay!

"As part of our on-going push to ensure Nintendo content is shared across social media channels in an appropriate and safe way, we became a YouTube partner and as such in February 2013 we registered our copyright content in the YouTube database. For most fan videos this will not result in any changes, however, for those videos featuring Nintendo-owned content, such as images or audio of a certain length, adverts will now appear at the beginning, next to or at the end of the clips. We continually want our fans to enjoy sharing Nintendo content on YouTube, and that is why, unlike other entertainment companies, we have chosen not to block people using our intellectual property."

Wait, so basically nothing will change except that on LPs channels there will be Nintendo ads on the side?

That is what the PR says but there's something else that happens...the public doesnt know this but...

They won't actually place strikes on your account, but multiple content matches of the type they are placing can lead to the account standing being affected.

So...there's two options. One make a youtube channel dedicated to Nintendo games or not make videos at all of nintendo games.

Oh wow that's a dick move, I watch a lot of LPs and "gaming shows" (PeanutButterGamer, JonTron, ProJared and the likes), so if this comes true, all of those channels need to have a separate channels only for Nintendo content? That really sucks...
