Would not surprise me because Sony thought to go the cheaper route at first to not make losses. While MS has enough money to go high RAM. Then Sony realized that maybe they would get passed up by being the middle man.

LOL.  To some degree you're right.  Many will buy only one because that's all they can truly afford.  Then go with what games you like.

But there are a lot of self proclaimed "hardcore" gamers on here that own 1 console.  Video games is actually one of the cheaper hobbies you can have.  1000 to get into all 3 systems?  That's not bad.  I spent double that on my BBS rims/tires alone.

Point being, spend less time arguing on these forums and more time working to pay for everything you want (so that you can quit envying and start appreciating).
