Do you have a good PC? If yes, download PCSX2. The majority of games are compatible with it and the games look far better when rendered in 1080p and with AA. And since it can read the original game disks you won't even have to pirate any games.

They stop making them because they don't sell many any more that it probably wouldn't make significant amounts of profit

Or why not just put the ps2 hardware/emulation back into the ps3 and just keep the price up or something.
