Lol you think it would do amazing on vita only? Barely any games do big numbers on vita in Japan.
|
What? So far Vita in Japan has had 4 games this year selling 200k+ (DQB; DQH; Minecraft; KanColle) and a further 3 games selling 100k+ (Attack on Titan; Gundam; Jikkyou). I'd hardly call that 'barely any games'.
It's looking like neither version of Toukiden is going to reach 100k at this rate, too (I'm assuming the PS3 version will be DOA).
(For comparison, PS4 has had 2 games selling 200k+ (Dark Souls; DQH) and 7 at 100k+ (The Division; DQH; Jikkyou; Overwatch; Star Ocean; Uncharted; Yakuza)).

You talk like they treated Toukiden 2 as a PS4 exclusive when clearly this is not the case. Just because they showed the PS4 version first this doesn't mean that they wanted to transfer the fanbase. Otherwise there wouldn't be a PS3 version.
|
If anything that shows they do want to transfer the fanbase, they're going out of their way to make a second home console version to try and get every HC owner they can to give the series a try.

God Eater 2 Rage Burst and God Eater Ressurection was showcased with the PS4 version yet both titles managed to do great and the Vita version still selling more. GE2RB sold 500k on Japan and Asia and GER sold 300k on Japan and Asia.

Again, this just highlights the point further. God Eater has kept its original design - small arenas, designed around ad-hoc play and most importantly - clearly optimized on the handheld. I can't find a source for that 500k figure, but God Eater 2 shipped 700k across Vita/PSP, so the decline is about average for expanded version + PSP dying out by the time Rage Burst released. Compare that to Toukiden, which is looking to go 470k - 200k (expanded release) - < 200k (sequel) and you can see why it's such a mis-fire.

And why are you mentioning west in a thread where we discuss japanese sales? What west has to do with Toukiden's 2 reception?
|
The point with mentioning the west is the 'open-world' aspect is clearly a play to western audiences, so if the game under-performs in Japan, Koei-Tecmo will be betting on the west to pull up the numbers. While I certainly hope western performance will be better, past data shows us it's not something they should really be betting on.

They should have released the game sooner when the iron was still hot and not 2 years after Kiwami.

Don't agree with this either. 2 years is a very reasonable gap to give the series some rest, the franchise doesn't need to be yearly. Plus if they released in 2015 they'd be up against God Eater 2/Resurrection and Monster Hunter X - as it stands they've got 2016 to themselves with hunting games.
