go back in time and take one console (or handheld) with you, what would you take and how far back would you go?

 I would take my DS and go to 1980 and give Nintendo a head start.

I would take a Wii back to 1983, show it to Miyamoto and tell him: "This is the future of videogames, you must be sure to make this the best thing in videogames ever"...

Thinking about it, that would be unnecesary :)

I'd go back in time with a fcking PS3 :P, give them a kick-start on better Hard-drives, better chipset architecture, better internet resources (hellooooo wi-fi), much better laser diodes, hell about a million other reasons :P  Maybe that would be a bad idea ._.;

I'd take my Wii and either show it to an early Nintendo, or go back to the 18th century and show the people the bright future ahead of them, maybe creating some kind of myth or prophecy to create the biggest console hype ever.

Man if the PS3 went back it could also mean improved cellular devices, amazing battery technology, and the data coding for Folding at home :P We could all be superhuman by this point in time xD

 I personally think the battery in the PS3 controller is obscenely efficient :P and capable of being powered via USB 2? That would definitely move battery tech forward :P

I'd take the Wii back to 1995 when the Nintendo 64 was in development, so that Nintendomination would have never abated. Just think of the awesome things that would have happened.
