Forums - Sony - Low Vita scores...

Just had a look on IGN at the Vita reviews.

There's only 10 retail games on the PS Vita with scores above 8/10

Of those 10 games, 8 of them are ports and 1 of them is a spin-off. In fact if you look through the retail review listing it's basically all ports. EDIT (Just to elaborate, this isn't having a dig at the Vita having only ports, in todays gaming stuff it's just the way it is with budgets and whatnot, it's more the point that these ports are bascially for the most part carbon copies of the home console releases with just a few concessions that are inevitable on a handheld).

Every time I go to IGN these days and there's a new Vita review, the review reads postively but then the score at the end is nearly always in the high 7s. The most recent of which is the latest Guilty Gear Accent core release. I'm really not sure how it can be given a 7.9 based on video game relative generous scoring to over media.

Is it me or does IGN seem to be treating the Vita more harshly than other consoles?

You know that those websites only get payed to hype the big american developed AAA console releases.

Portable gaming is a chore for them.

Doesn't stop them from giving 3DS games good reviews (lately)^^

Exactly, should have added that to the OP. That's what what motivated me to make the thread. The 3DS can do no wrong. The scoring/review text parity matches, but for the Vita it seems like they are talking about a different game to the score they give at the end.

If it's a game for a portable console you need to add a point to the score.

You'd have to note down their Vita scores and compare them to the average score over on Metacritic and see if they're significantly below the industry average. Also do the same for the 3DS, it'll be fun.

Well, the latest example should be soul sacrifice, it got a 7.9 and the only minus was "repetitive combat", which they say in the article, it is repetitive but that doesn't matter a lot.

so, all in all... it's a WTF ign. they talk good but give not so good scores. too many people will think a 79, thats just meh, no real system seller, i won't need that game and skip it.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

It's like bullying the shy, nerdy kid in school. Vita sales are bad to terrible, so they know they can get away with anything. It's actually cool to hate on the vita, compare any vita games with ps3 games and point out how much better the ps3 version is, simply because they jumped on the "psvita sucks, it's unnecessary; we have smartphones for portable gaming" bandwagon. The 3ds is doing well, so it has to be cool, hence the reviews. If reviews were fair, COD games wouldn't get more than a 6.

More like substract a point from home consoles.
