Forums - Microsoft - Disc Read Error Help!

Anyone know if the Disc read error is covered under the 3 year warranty for the 360? I bought my Elite the day after it came out now I am starting to get this error often I have tried 3 different games and I get it on them all 3 games after playing for a 20-40 minute period. All discs are mint as I take care of my gaming products like they are my little one. I don't feel like talking to MS customer service if not I have a shop by me that fixes them cheap if not covered this is why I ask.

Microsoft has a one year warranty on all 360 models. Microsoft extended the warranty for the three ring error to three years. Regarding your question you should still be under the full protection of the original warranty given that the Elite at its earliest launched in April of last year. The only obvious exception being if you neglected or mistreated your machine.

Before you consult Microsoft however I recommend that if you have not done so get a can of compressed air, and give your machine a good blowing out. No point in going through a lot of hassle for a spec of dust. Also unplug your machine for a few minutes if you have not done so. The machine may simply be locked up. Not trying to be offensive in the least some people in real life don't actually know to do these things if they have a problem, and immediately run to customer support.

Anyway you should still be covered by your Warranty. The ring of death warranty extension shouldn't really apply.

You could also try cleaning your discs and checking them for any scratches. you could also message the 360 owners on here and see if they've encountered this problem and ask for advice. They might have solution.

Thanks Dodece I blow out my 360 once a week and it is still doing it but I will try the unplugging of the 360 that one I have not tried. If not guess I will be sending it in for refurb.

It's covered (the Xbox Elite was first launched on April 29th, 2007) so you should go to their website if you don't feel like talking to them on the phone.

Even better way of doing it I didnt think you could setup a repair via website that is great. So I dont need to speak to someone from India to send my US 360 in for repair :).
