Forums - Microsoft - The Next-Gen Xbox Is Getting a Hell of an Exclusive, Sources Say

Kresnik said:

Well, this was a surprisingly interesting article.

I'm going to hold off on believing this one is true since:

a) The cost of securing actual exclusivity for what sounds like it's aiming to be a Battlefield-to-CoD level shooter would just be huge. While I'm sure it's just pocket change for MS to throw at EA for exclusivity, that kind of money could still potentially be better spent elsewhere.

b) We heard similar stuff about timed exclusivity for Destiny. Doesn't seem to be happening (yet!)

Source engine is interesting. I don't really know enough about game engines I suppose, so maybe this is completely wrong but... isn't Source quite an old engine by this point? Even if modified.

Still, if it is true then it could potentially be a massive deal, especially if they target the advertising campaign with "The next FPS from the makers of Call of Duty". Something like that, anyway (because it is going to take a bit of work to get Joe-CoD-gamer aware of a new title).

All this corporate exclusivity is confusing.  Activision & Microsoft have been in cahoots for a long time, but now it seems that Acti are (slightly) softening up towards Sony ($$$) while EA, traditionally closer to Sony, are getting closer to Microsoft ($$$?).  And Ubisoft and Sony seem to be getting closer, judging by all their exclusive DLC as of late.  Weird.

I can't help but leave my final comment about the "Microsoft-is-6-months-behind-with-Xbox-development" bit though. A little bit surprised by that, because I thought they'd actually be more like a year ahead of Sony when planning for next gen.

Bold: The Source engine is dated... the last build was released in 2012 but only fixes and some tricks are made... not revolutionary or some modens features released after 2004 (the engine was released in 2004).

But Gabe Newell said Source 2 was in development since 2012 but there are expecting the right game to release it... I can't think other than Half-Life 3 or Half-Life 2 Eps. 3 to release the new Source 2 engine.

So I think Respawn is not using the Source engine.

This news combined with all the negative rumors surrounding the next Xbox....seems to me like Microsoft has no idea what they're doing. May 21st can't come soon enough.

So MS securing a massive exclusive and Polygon confirming an internet connection us not required to play games is a bad

I cant wait for the 21st either, just to see how some users will try to downplay the info

Wow only on Vgchartz can you go into a thread about an Awesome Next Xbox rumor and nearly every comment is either downplaying the rumor or bashing a game weve never even seen a screen shot of

Keep it classy Vgchartz

It is sad. I thought it was getting better around here too... Hopefully it still does.

Oh dear God no.  Whether MS has a bad, middling or fantastic showing come May 21st, it will get much, MUCH worse here ...

"We'd also heard from an industry insider that Microsoft was aggressively trying to sign exclusive games for Durango"

Called it! http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5243349

Itll play used games, wont require an internet connection to play games, and will have multiple huge exclusives.

Im excited to see how certain users here will react to the info

Mhhm....i love it Microsoft when you get aggressive....

I'm inclined to believe this.

A reliable poster on gaf with the hilarious name crazy buttocks on a train hinted beforehand at a big EA exclusive for MS, and ruled out Dragon Age, Battlefield and Mass Effect. He also hinted at this having some sort of timed exclusivity, which I'm also incliend to believe.

This could be big for MS. I'd like to see Sony release Planetside 2 on PS4 as a competitor to this.

Ignore or minimize.  The patterns have been clearly set for a long, long time...
