Totally agree with the OP. This is hands down the worst GoW game on console (I haven't played any of the handheld ones). But what did you expect after Sony killed the series with GoW 3?

I normally play GoW games on hard, because playing on normal difficulty I feel turns the game into a button masher, but I found GoW A very unresponsive when the going got really tough on this setting. The roll is so dam slow, abrupt and thus ineffective, that you die way to often in certain cramped set pieces when fighting many enemies.

Oh and the story is rubbish, there simply is no coming back from that dogs breakfast that was GoW 3. GoW is now just for the fans, nothing more to see here.

I don't approve re-imagining Kratos once again. I want to feel I am playing the Kratos that did all those things in those games.

Unless they make Kratos into an alternate story in which he is Abraham, asked by God to kill his son in order to prove his faith to God but in this story Kratos actually kills his son and then you know what follows, you know how Kratos will respond to this request. :)

In no God of war game you can roll and attack at the same time. God of War Ascension is no difference.

Playing God Of war 3 and Ascension back to back was a little awkward. Graphics seemed to go backwards in a lot of areas. (Lighting was better but character models really looked shit a lot of the time and the IQ was terrible after God of War 3.) Gameplay nowhere near as smooth. The game was surprisingly buggy, A first time problem for me and GoW. Boss battles nowhere near as good (That last fight was AMAZING though) and the Story was weak.

Still enjoyed the game a lot, no more rush jobs though, Sony.

I enjoyed Ascension almost as much as 3, certainly very close to it. I agree with Attoyou though, it wasn't as good as 3 but it certainly had most of the good stuff right. Can't really complain, could have been worse, could have been better.

End of the day for a 4th game in a series it's damn good, you could lay your comment at pretty much any series from the 3rd game onwards. Judged on those terms, it's up there with the best.

I just got the game yesterday and I'm right at the beginning of the snake section and for now it's my favourite game of the series. Of course it has some flaws, I experienced some audio glitches, there sometimes are little performance stutters from time to time.
Well I think the game is harder then the third one but the mechanics are imo superior.
To be honest I never really cared about the story in Gows mostly because of the crazy order I have played them in: GoW 3 > GoW 2 > now GoW:A.
And the lack of epicness mentioned in a lot of reviews? WTF!? The "Hecatonheir" or whatever the name of the first boss was, was pretty fuckin epic for me!

EDIT. Plus I forgot to mention that I highly prefer the journey style of Ascenion a'la GoW2 as opposed to constantly going back and forth on mount Olympus in GoW3.

Also CoO is my least favorite GoW by far

Some people are just retarded...go and get the game. It's a great experience and far more replayability than any other God of War game.
