Forums - Gaming - Can Sony or Nintendo counter a cable box?

Can Sony & Nintendo compete?

It won't happen 10 5.88%

They will do well against it 45 26.47%

Sony, but not Nintendo 42 24.71%

Nintendo, but not Sony 16 9.41%

No they can't 37 21.76%

It'll still depend on software 15 8.82%

Sony will have one too 5 2.94%

Total:170

With rumors of MS possibly partnering with a cable company for the Nextbox, will its competitors be able to compete?  Does Sony have the infastructure to carry out contracted boxes?   Will the multi-purposeness be too much for the other boxes to handle?  It's a prediction of how a hypothetical could turn out but nothing better to talk about so here I am.

Nope. If we are being honest...the week of E3 will be all about

1. Apple's press conference
2. IF M$ annouces a cable box/living room media device.

These two things will get ACTUAL mainstream media press. Not gaming annoucements. Those will get gaming press, there is a big difference.

I haven't had a cable box in like 10+ years so I really don't know nor would I want to use consoles as a cable box.....

That doesnt answer the question.

Nintendo already seems to want that audience. (Their TVii offering sure does hint at it.) I don't know about this being a successful idea, though. It could fail as badly as "real"-3D did the first time.

I'm getting all of my channels via satellite (even the PPV channels), so I actually couldn't care less...

With so many people already locked into contrats with comcast/dish/uverse/cox and others, I think it would take quite a whole to catch on bit eventually it could be big

LOL @ people thinking their little "personal testimonials" mean anything in the grand scheme of things.

Sony has been in talks with networks for a while about offering streaming ipTV over SNE devices. I would not be surprised to see this as a major announcement leading up to PS4 launch.

I think we are really close to each channel being its own app, and both PS4 & XB3 will support them. Every channel will come up with its live stream, but with the hit of the menu button, you will have the option to watch other shows from the network on demand. There is massive room for growth in the TV business, and PS4 and XB3 are going to be the pioneers of this.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

The thing is, it's a shrinking market so there is nothing to counter.
