I think that's an exaggeration, the PSP is doing fine, actually it's the most successful rival handheld gaming system ever since Nintendo started dominating this market segment with the original Gameboy.

But speaking as a consumer, the planned feature of being able to stream TV (and media) from the PS3 to the PSP over the internet and program my PS3 wirelessly to record TV programs as a DVR using the PSP may well be a feature to win me over. (Three games I would be interested in buying, God of War: Chains of Olympus, Daxter and R&C: Size Matters)

The system is fine, I'm referring to the attach rate of the software, which does and is leading the system down the road to being considered a multimedia device, and not a handheld gaming console.

That thread claims attach rate number of about 1 game per 3 consoles sold this week in europe. Future development of games on the PSP isn't a profitable investment for software companies, and the library is suffering from lack of support of gaming by PSP's owners, imo.


IMO software sales are overall doing just fine as well, having just checked worldwide holiday software sales, software overall is considerably outselling hardware sales. Maybe for that week in question there were no interesting new game releases or the data is simply incomplete.

I think both the PS2 and Wii play an important role in this market. I predicted the Wii would perform much better than the GameCube performed at a time when everyone spelled its doom, the same for the PS2 if you believed many posters the platform would have been totally dead right now.

I don't think many younger kids will own more than 1 platform at a time and this is the market segment where the PS2 and Wii really thrives, I don't expect their parents to run out and buy them a 360 anytime soon. Also IMO a console aimed at kids should be very sturdy and not die or scratch discs if you don't take excellent care (nor if you do).

many non-gamers will NOT consider a ps360 even if they start playing games more...they are completely turned off by having to hit so many buttons and having to aim with a joystick (lol) and doing complex button combinations

that is called a strategic advantage and the reason that ps360 will use motion controls as their main controller next generation

i think Microsoft is just mad that they are in second with their year head start. Maybe they should have released in 2007 instead of 2006.
