Guillermo Del Toro is teaming-up with Sherlock and Doctor Who writer Steven Thompson to develop Naoki Urasawa's Monster as a television series for HBO,Deadline reports. The 18-volume manga series has been adapted previously as anime, and is described as, “a thriller about the worldwide search by a young doctor for the most evil sociopath that has ever lived. He is a 12-year-old boy, and the doctor’s decision to save his life has unwittingly unleashed a Pandora’s Box that leaves the doc battling to stop a plot of mass genocide.”

Thompson will write the screenplay for the pilot with Del Toro set to direct. The pair will also co-executive produce alongside Angry Films’ Don Murphy and Susan Montford and Exile’s Gary Ungar. Shogakukan, the Japanese publisher of the manga volumes, will act as a consulting producer.

This is by far one of the best anime/manga I've ever watch/read. Glad they are making a series out of it. Hope they don't screw it up.

god have mercy!

this will be HUGE. Monster manga is so f*** awesome

When I read "With Dr. Who writer" my heart jumped into my throat. I thought it would be Russel T. Davies. Phew. Thank God it isn't. I'm pretty excited for this. Monster is up among my top 5 favorite Anime.

Truly hope they can keep the ethnicities intact. Also, this will totally depend on getting the right people to play Tenma, Johan and Nina.

I hope they do some cutting from the manga, I don't know why but Urasawa always stretch his mangas too much (in my opinion), same thing happened with 20 century boys.

Freaking sweet! I liked this anime a lot. It was like 80 episodes, wasn't it? Should give fabric for cutting for a number of seasons.

Del Toro horror work is exceptional, this can end up being something huge!

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I hope they fix the pacing issues. Because other than that the anime was great.

I love guillermo del toro's spanish, and horror tinged movies like devil backbone.

I haven't really thought that much of his english movies though, hellboy, and blade II.
