According to a study by German Security firm AV-TEST Institute Google is a safer search engine than Bing. The study spanned across 18 months and included more than 40 million search results (read sites) and pit together Google, Bing and others like the popular Russian search engine Yandex.

Microsoft’s Bing delivered 10 times as many infected with malware websites than Google. The chart above shows the results – from almost 11 million results on Google around 272 were infected, while the same number of search results on Bing contained 1285 potentially dangerous pages. 

The study also shows that around 110 million infected sites are currently active so online-goers aren’t all that safe from malware harm.

Microsoft downplayed the results in its official response saying that the search engine will “show results with warnings for about 0.04% of all searches, meaning about 1 in 2,500 search result pages will have a result with a malware warning on it.” It goes on “so a user will see the warning only 1 in every 10,000 searches. In any case, the overall scale of the problem is very small.”

Do sites purposely inject malware or is the malware put on the site from someone else or is it both?

Bing is not even competition where Google is concerned. There is a reason why Google is trusted any used much more than the other options. If only Google was in the videogame business too.... sigh!
