Don't worry, it's not really your fault. The problems of this - still great and thanks to available sales figures still unique - games database are
- lumping a ton of franchises into "Misc" (which shows especially in your Wii list)
- the missing sub-categories which e.g. mobygames offers
- the database obscurities and mistakes which never got corrected, e.g.
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=endless+ocean (is it a simulation or an adventure franchise?)
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=zelda&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200 (action or adventure?)
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=resident+evil&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200 (action or shooter?)
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=fire+emblem&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200 (strategy or RPG?)
http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=LittleBigPlanet+Karting&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200 (action, really??)
The VGC database had and still has so much potential. With the correct top category for each franchise and the additional inclusion of sub-categories we would be able to filter and compare the sales of almost any sub-genre. Would have been great to be able to compare the performances of e.g. dance, TPS, RTS or strategy-RPG games on different platforms with a just a few mouse-clicks. Will unfortunately never happen.
