So crackdown is somehow a tps but saints row isn't and what does metal gear solid count as cause it could be counted as a tps.

It was hard to classify certain games since some games has more than one element of gameplay so i tried to take the main focus of the game.  I have not played crackdown so i can't say anything about it.  It was classified as a shooter hence a TPS.  Metal Gear is an Action/Adventure seeing as it's main focus is stealth and adventure.  Saints row's main focus is a sandbox which goes under Action/Adventure.

you count uncharted as a tps yet it is more of an adveture/platformer then it is a tps. Games have more than one genre so you can't pick and choose to your liking which one to put them in.

I put uncharted as TPS since it's multiplayer is about shooting each other.

so is gta's mp yet it's not in the tps category.

That is a good point actually.  As i said, it was hard for me to classify certain games.  If anybody has problem with where the games are they are more than welcome to let me know if i need to make changes IF there is a specific reason.

games have multiple genres so there is no shame in using one game for different genres.

Most of those games have several elements that belong to different genres. The chart and numbers will drastically change if you were to use a different genre within the game. ie Uncharted is clearly a combination of Action/Adventure, Platforming and Shooting. You can't just cherrypick one genre, doing so is a disservice to the game and to your data (as it is now subjective to you and no longer factual). You either do all three or none at all.

Where are fighters?

Good thread by the way ...

I can understand why'd it would be difficult to categorize eveything. Why not go simplified?

Action
Action/Adventure
Platformer( 2D &3D)
JRPG
WRPG
SRPG
Racing
Figthers
Sports
Shooter( first and 3rd)

That would only make things worse. The issue at hand is that games belong to different genres , not just one.

There's really only 2 options, either count that game for each genre it belongs to, or create a separate column for these games.

The first option messes up comparison numbers sure, but the totals for each genre will be correct. The second one will give a more accurate representation and it would make it easier to compare (but it would be a rather big and complex chart).

So...where's Metal Gear Solid 4, one of the best-selling PS3 exclusives, in this list???? And as others have asked, where is the fighting genre?

Look at that first party percentage for Nintendo and with a lead platform too! No wonder third parties don't like making games for them. Also interesting that the 360 has higher exclusive sales percentage but first party PS3 beats it. Also action adventure is a very broad category but I guess I get the vibe of what games we're including.

Wii  Total Percentage

Third Party 138.72m 37.16%

This is why Nintendo can't have nice things.
