Forums - Gaming - X360, PS3, Wii Breakdown of how well each genre sells on each platform (Ton of Data)

To those claiming that WRPGs and JRPGs belong in the same genre.

WPRGs and JRPGs really are 2 different genres.
"Every other genre in gaming was either popularized in the West and emulated in Japan or popularized in Japan and emulated in the West. I mean we don't use terms like JFPS or Western Platformer.

WRPGs and JRPGs were popularized within their respective country of origin, and grew parallel from another, spawning 2 different takes on the RPG genre."

Ripped straight from Extra Credits.

Great thread, lots of nice information in here.

Interesting to see how the genres pretty much sell the same on the HD twins with a couple small differences. Also, I know someone protested to Uncharted being a TPS but that is exactly where it belongs imho.

Great thread. Nice info and efforts way more interresting than those analysis threads that exclude anything that doesn't fit the op's agenda... keep it up.

As for downloaded games I believe Minecraft devs always bragged about how many copies they sold and there's a thread on MS's section about XBLA sales but I understand that you would have to know all dd data not just one.

This is one hell of an impressive thread. I don't know what to do with it right now, but I'm sure this will come in handy sometime.

As expected, not so different.

The JRPG numbers are sad. For every single console, not only 360.

Thats because the jrpg market has mostly jumped to the handhelds this gen

360 Still rreceived the best support from the jrpg side out of the 3 this gen

Something´s wrong. Wii Sports alone sold almost 80 million copies and it´s not even on the list.

Wii Sports sold that much because it was bundled with the Wii so its not on the list. Similarly, Kinect Adventures is not on the list either because it is bundled with the Kinect even though that has sold more than 20 million copies.

I'm not that sure. Every non-handheld console has received great JRPG support this generation. Whether it is Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Vesperia, Project Sylpheed or Last Remnant on 360, there's Pandora's, Last Story, Xenoblade, Fragile Dreams or Tales of Graces on the Wii, and then there's the Atelier Series, Xilia, Demon's, Folklore, Ni No Kuni and White Knight Chronicles on the Ps3 =P

With a small amount of rounding the numbers, both the xbox360 and PS3 have %80 of third party games... Exclusives just don't matter like they used too... They still sell well, don't get me wrong but they're only %20 of sales right near the end of the gen.
