Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Microsoft may revive Heroes TV show for Xbox

Neowin

In September, Microsoft announced that it hired Nancy Tellem, a former president of CBS Television Studios, to become its first Entertainment & Digital Media president. Tellem would also run a new Microsoft-owned Xbox entertainment studio. It didn't get a ton of attention at the time. Now there's word that Microsoft may be in discussions to revive a cult hit TV series as part of an effort to add original video content for its Xbox division.

TVLine.com reports via unnamed sources, that Microsoft (incorrectly called MSN in the article) is in the "preliminary stages" of plans to launch a new version of Heroes, which is owned by NBCUniversal. The series, which presented a world filled with super heroes but without the usual capes and tights, ran on NBC from 2006 to 2010 for 77 episodes. The article claims that, if Microsoft's deal goes through, the new version of Heroes will concentrate on introducing new characters, with possible cameos from characters from the original series.

It's not exactly a shock to learn that Microsoft might be interested in giving Xbox owners original video content in the future. Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Instant Video are all offering original or exclusive content on their streaming video series in addition to their library of old TV shows and movies. However, Microsoft certainly has the money to help fund a high budget TV series that would be comparable to what the major networks can come up with.

Megaton console seller.

I loved heroes season one but then it went downhill from there. I hope they can do as good as the first season if it returns

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Hopefully the original cast returns.

meh heroes went so far downhill it wasnt worth watching hence why it was cancelled in the first place.

Season 1 was epic, season 2 was acceptable, but I couldn't even finish season 3. The dip in quality was too great.
Not the best choice to go with I'd say, but it's Microsoft's money.

i agree with you, season 1 just kept getting better and then something happened which just made it an ok show. The question is this content going to be available worldwide or just the US as xbox live is starting to become not worth it for alot of us around the world.

While I watched and liked the whole series,I definitely think Season 1 was the best. I would welcome this though.

I LOVE paying for Xbox Live! I also love that my love for it pisses off so many people.

while im not sure if a heroes reboot is in the pipline, you can definately bet that microsoft is definately working on original programing as is netflix and amazon, simplying being able to stream tv shows and movies isnt enough anymore, everybody can do that you have to make your service stand out, and if you cant do it on price because of hollywood, then your own original programing is the next best thing.

Man I would love that.

MS working on exclusive movie and TV content is really one of the things I'm most excited for. So many service providers have been going down that path (Both Netflix and Hulu have) with excellent results thus far.

Please MS, whatever you do, make a Halo TV series with the production quality from an AMC or HBO series.
