No its not, you claimed they lost everything, they didn't. Don't talk about things you don't know. You can look up their FY2011 and soon FY2012.

You know that's just pushing things out of context. Point is they lost a gigantic amount of $$ on PS3 and they sure as hell can't take a 100+ loss at launch upfront.

Lemme go look up some FY2011, but they lost $$ during their Q1-Q3 2012.

Eh you claimed they lost all of their profits, which was wrong, I don't see how it is pushing things out of context. You were even sure of what you claimed until I showed otherwise.

$100 loss/unit is plausible, the deficit will be offset by software and psn sales but they'll still post a loss. You call people expecting PS4 to cost $400 delusional, you are assuming even the base model is +$500 to manufacture based on nothing.

Oh lol I'm sorry I had 1 piece of info wrong. PS3 did in fact dissolve all profits from PS1 and PS2. The reason why the discrepancy shows on the graph is because of the PSP posting some nice profits. So yes, on the console front, PS3 wiped out PS1 and PS2 profits.

Can't believe I was dumb enough to miss that. Sry bout that.

Again, you talk nonsense, pls back up what you claim with a source or two.

Aight adding up 1995-2005 numbers we get...$5,340,853,500 that would be total profits under PS1+2 no PSP

Total profits till 2005-5.34 billion

Losses incured through 2005-2013 (January or around when Q3 result are out for 2012)--4.95 billion

Total compiled profit-$390 million through 1995-2013. COMPILED so with PSP profits.

Now, according to this article, http://www.vg247.com/2013/01/07/xbox-360-and-ps3-losses-total-8-billion-ex-sony-employee-paints-grim-future/

Sony lost $4.95 billion during the years of PS3 launch till Jan of 2013, but because Sony complied the losses of PS3 and profits on PSP, (Similarly to how GBA profits and GC losses were complied into a total profit), we have no exact clear number on how much PSP alone made a profit.

So it's up to you to decide whether PSP with 77 million consoles sold and 280 million software units made the meager amount of $400 million of profit throughout it's entire lifecycle till January 2013. Either way it's pathetic.

You say PSP can't have made that little of a profit, PS3 did indeed lose more $$ than the PS1+2 made them. And the PSP is hiding that loss.

On the other hand you can argue that throughout 8 years of the PSP's lifecycle, it made less than $400 million total in profits. No way in hell that's true. PSP was a very sucessful piece of hardware.

PS3 lost Sony more than 5.3 billion and PSP made more than 400 million. Well and then there's PSVita R&D and losses.

More research will be posted.

This just doesn't make any sense.

Again, you talk nonsense, pls back up what you claim with a source or two.

And yes I know I ain't factoring in PSVita R&D. But those are really complicated cause Sony combined shipment numbers of PSP and Vita to mask poor Vita sales. Gimme a little time and I'll find more for you.

Remember that PS division profits are complied and not separated into PSP and PS3.

Dude, stop, you just post nonsense, I asked for a source, not some guess work you think is research. Why categorize ps2 sales in the 1993-2005 group, did it stop selling after that period? Do you even know in which FY PSP first came out?

Anything under $500 would be a pleasant surprise. Lower than $400 would be jaw dropping to me.

The fact that the PS2 kept selling is just even further evidence to how terrible the PS3 losses were.

And of course we can only guess. They don't give us profits and losses of each platform individually. They consolidate everything in the PS division.

PS3 cost Sony MORE than the profits made from the PS1 and PS2 consoles. This is hidden behind the success of the PSP during those years.

Simplified....the PS3 wiped out all profits off PS1 and PS2. They reason why they still have a net profit overall is due to other sources of profit (PSP,PS2) alongside the PS3 in the PS division during those years.

The thing is the biggest financial disaster in the history of gaming consoles.
