Its the greatest comeback ever, because its the only comeback that has ever happened.

Other than that its sales pattern is pretty similar to 360s, so is not really something thread worthy.

Just because you get reported doesn't mean you will get moderated.

There are just some people who would like to believe that the PS3 is a success, so they don't like it when they are reminded of financials or the fact that the PS3 was expected to dominate this generation.

No, people dont like it when threads are derailed and bringing them up when it is completly irrelevant to what the topic is about is derailing.

Talking about what was necessary for a comeback is very much on topic of a comeback, just like the definition and what qualifies as a comeback.

well i guess we have different defintions of what a comeback is, you seem to think it means marketshare and making money. For me its as simple as making a product that was not that great in the start and making it into something that was. We'll just agree to disagree and i will leave it at that.

The PS3 is the second biggest comeback console. #1 is the SNES, and the stories are kinda similar for the two. The SNES launched last behind the Genesis and Turbographix 16, but it was more powerful and had much better 3rd party support. As the generation went on the other systems lost steam while the SNES eventually dominated the market. Whoever said Genesis beat SNES and was a big comeback is way off. SNES outsold Genesis 50 million to 30 million. Genesis was an early starter, not a comeback.

PS3 is a similar story, as it was a follow up to a massive success but started slow and took a long time to gain market. But it istn't the biggest comeback because, as has been said by others, it's still in last place. It will probably finish a slight second in the end but it will still have about 30% market share. SNES meanwhile went from last to around 60% market share, making it a much, much bigger comeback success.

Really? I always thought they were always in first. Interesting and fair enough if true. But did SNES have the negativity that PS3 ganered in its early life? I kind of doubt that.

Nope the SNES was not in a comparably bad situation it just came too late, but it never was at a path to total destruction. It was just that Sega managed to grab some of Nintendos market in the USA before the SNES was released. Master System was quite succesful around here so Sega being on the market with Nintendo wasn't much of a big deal here.

But it never made losses or sold way worse than expected.

Thats what i thought, i was around for the SNES and it didnt get anywhere near the bile that PS3 got or even 3ds or Vita.

Making money doesn't qualify a comeback. No one has ever had a conversation like this.

Man 1: Man, Columbus Blue Jackets had a great comeback scoring 3 goals in the final 10 minutes"

Man 2: Yeah but no fans were in the seats. Therefore they didn't have a comeback

He's wrong.

Genesis did better in some regions, SNES in others. Overall SNES sold a lot more but not really in europe.

You can't really compare the then/now though as neither the SNES nor Megadrive/Genesis made any sort of "comeback", they both sold reasonably well from the beginning.

You actually think that the SNES selling 49.1M against ONE strong competitor (the Genesis sold more like 40M, not 30M) is a bigger comeback than the PS3 selling 90M+ against TWO strong competitors?  And if memory serves me right, the SNES didn't launch at $200 more than Genesis, let alone $250 like the PS3 did against the Wii.  Or get poorly made ports for the first 1 1/2 - 2 years of its release.

As I pointed out above, your numbers for SNES and Genesis are wrong, so SNES's market share was closer to 49.5%, Genesis 40.4%, and Turbo Grafx 10.1%.  It will still be above the PS3's ~35% marketshare, but I guess Sony will just have to be happy with selling 2x as many PS3s as SNESs.  And having the PS3 ending up the 5th or 6th top selling console ever.

This thread's getting more and more hilariously silly by the minute. Some PS3 fans are amazing, so many lulz. x'D

people are debunking him right and left, fair enough

I think comeback might be the incorrect word, But as usual, people on this site take things and run in completely different tangents.

The PS3, to me, has had a remarkable turnaround.
