No!

Ericsson is a European company that happened to have a joint-venture with Sony.
Sony bought Ericssons 50% of that joint-venture.

Ericsson is a swedish company. And a pretty big one. Ericsson is worth 40 billion USD.Sony is at 17 billion USD.

why do people believe that? ericcson has over 100k employees and is the company which is building all the infrastructure so that you can even call other people with your verizon or at&t phone^^

sony ericsson was only a joint venture (both owning 50%) and ericsson sold the part of this joint venture to sony.

I dont get it, you just told me that Sony and Ericsson held 50% a piece. You say Sony bought theirs, effectively having 100% now. How is that not full ownership?

Ah. So I guess my next question, does Ericssons quarterly statements impact Sonys in any way?

?

Does Sony have any interest/stake in Ericssons?

Well, if they did, they'll probably have a lot less than 20%, so they'll only report dividend revenue. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equity_method

If you're talking about Sony Ericcson (now Sony Mobile Communications http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Mobile_Communications ) then their results are consolidated into Sony's financial statements. That is, it's one company. There is no Sony Ericsson quarterly statement.

2 seperate companies.

No, they don't influence each other. They just had this joint-venture together, which was an unqiue 3rd company named "Sony Ericsson". This 3rd unique company was bought by Sony.

Ericsson is the bigger company here.
