PS3 outsells the 360 first globally 144 66.98%

The latest numbers from 30 march 2013 tell us the following;

 

In the US Market

The Wii has sold 40888676 units LTD. This system sold 14533 units for the week.

The Xbox 360 has sold 39198182 units LTD. This week the system sold 50846 units.

The difference is 1654181 units in favor of the Wii. The difference for the week is 36313 in favor of the 360.

 

On the Global front

The PS3 has sold 73841401 units LTD. The sales for the week were 131481 units.

Xbox 360 has sold 74955248 units LTD. The sales for the week were 89880 units.

The difference so far is 1113847 units in favor of the Xbox 360. The difference this week is 41601 units in favor of the PS3.

 

If you use simple mathmatics, you could say the 360 will need 45 weeks to outsell the Wii in the US and the PS3 needs 26 weeks to outsell the 360 globally, but that's making it too easy as these consoles don't sell the same exact numbers every week and the sales get even more interesting around the holidays and the releases of big games.

So what do you guys think? Care to elaborate on why you think which will be first?

I will happen simultaneously. The exact moment one person purchases the passing 360 in the US another 2 people will buy PS3 somewhere in the world. Balmer and Kaz's minds will both be blown as they call each other to brag and find out about the other.

I would say that the PS3 will edge out the Xbox 360 worldwide first. It's also going to have to depend on how the holidays go and how next gen consoles will affect the sales of current gen consoles.

the PS3 outsells the 360 by 40k (the difference is 1.2M)
the 360 outsells the wii in the US by 36k (the difference is 1.8M)

The PS3 will outsell the 360 first.

26 weeks is still before the holiday rush, begin October. PS3 will pass 360 first, 360 will pass ps3 again black friday week, and possibly wii usa as well. Then ps3 will pass 360 again after the holidays.

I don't think the 360 has that much appeal left in it to outsell the PS3 again, even if it was for 1 month. Besides have you seen how the PS3 has outsold the 360 even during the holiday season for the last couple of years?

I think it will be very similar.  PS3 will take second place about the same time as 360 takes 1st place in the US.
